The P-47 M or N either one would be a very scary opponent, at high altitudes, and a legit addition to the plane set.

Can't wait to see what comes out of HTC when they decide to do a Thunderbolt.

Oh, I read in a book (cannot recall which, but it was written by a 47 driver that he felt *safe* versus 109's in his 47 because of the tremendous damage the Jug could take AND that he could outclimb/outrun them and engage at will.

Maybe he was talking about early model 109's?

I think it's the P-47's 'zoom' climb that was fantastic. A P-47 from level flight versus literally any other aircraft is the worste climber.
But if the P-47 has speed built up and gets into a godfight the zoom climb of the paddle bladed P-47's was reportedly phenominal.
In any online sim's P-47 to date I have hated to end up climbing with any enemy aircraft on my tail.

From the other side of the coin; Heinz Knoke in his book "I flew for the fuhrer" gives an account of a fight with P-47's from which he was unable to escape with a spiral climb in his Me 109G, even using MW 50 boost...

Juzz, glad to see thatthere's more that just my source.

I'll try to find the book so I can post the quote, but I've moved recently and it is in *one* of those boxes....

Im for the nerfed p47 D of Airwarrior:

we have enough uber planes and the p47D would do very well and not upset play balance like the Dweeb Hog.

I laugh when you guys think the p47 was not a competent fighter.  Its almost as fast as a mustang, will out dive anything, was durable, could carry enormous payload, and had 8 50's which its pilots really respected.

above 25k due to the r2800 and a very big supercharger, It is the king of battle. Its only drwback was range, thus the P51 was born when they got the merlins.

Jabo it reigns supreme too though the p38 is very good also.

I would fly the p47 alot due to historical significence..   On discovery's Wings it was named warbird of the century due to its impressive statistics/versitility against air/ground targets.

Thats right warbird of the century...  I must agree it was by far america's best plane and workhouse..

Note im a big p38 fan/F4 fan/f6 fan but no other aircraft had the versitility of this JUG.

P47D all the way....

Why D-25?

D-25 only had the R-2800-59 with 2300 hp.

Why not D-27, otherwise identical but 2600 hp.

The Funky Camo-scheme one, is Dave Schillings P-47M.
All the P-47M got painted in erhh...non-standard camo-schemes, but all they really did was to slow the planes by 5-10mph. (Not that it mattered all that much with a topspeed of 476mph).
(The only FG to recieve the P-47M's was the 56th FG...and if we get the M, neither Johnson or Gabreski got to fly the M..Johnson was sent home well before that and Gabreski was a POW (Although he pranged his kite on his last sortie before going home so he wouldnt have been able to fly it anyhow:P).)
One of the Squadrons painted their P-47M's matte black. (63rd Sqdn, I believe).

Ohhhh nice Westy

Thanks !!

I am kinda partial to the dark blue/light blue scheme's myself, but thats probably due to my recent interests in Yak's.
