 I'm putting in an early artwork plug for this plane. (couldn't hurt I figure)

         

 This is a plane from the 65th Squadron of the 57 Fighter Group. It's located at the New England Air Museum in a large area of the museum dedicated them.

Interesting Camo Scheme on the second one Juzz. Any idea of what theater, time of year, squadron, etc? Looks like a cross between German and VVS to me, instead of an American paintjob.

The P-47D in the pics is a player-made addition for FS:SDOE. They are real schemes, the second one is 56th FG iirc. Go to the site they are on, details are there.

Here is a little history on that camo paint scheme P-47.

   

Lieutenant Colonel Francis S. Gabreski of the 61st Squadron, 56th Fighter Group in his Republic P-47D Thunderbolt, 42-26418. Shooting down a toal of 28 German aircraft, Gabreski was the leading American ace in Europe.

That 56th one is the best looking Jug I've seen!  I'm gonna have to re-install FS for that one.  It looks to be copied from the Monogram 1/48 kit, Dave Schilling's plane, I believe?

 Hey CavemanJ. I sat in that F4U too Sunday! It really is a nice bird. High,long nose and I had a hard time getting out due to the high angle of the fuselage (I'm 6'5" and hefty).
 One thing I was really suprised about is that the F4U's six view is not bad at all. I could clearly look back and check my six without much trouble at all. And the control surface movements were nice and instantaneous too. A light touch on the aelerons or rudder brought instant control surface movement. No control cables used on those birds!

  You have to just love those open cockpit Sundays they have every now and then  

  As for the colour scheme of the 56th P47. They also used that scheme alot in the Italian theatre. Just an FYI.
