I gotta give them Modern Marvels. I really do like that show. It's interesting enough for me to watch it when I want, and to knock me out when I want to sleep.

As far as the "History Channel" goes, LOL!!!  Just the name is a joke these days!!!  But you have to remember who the parent company is, and how they are COMPLETELY OWNED, by ppl of a certain political persuasion!
The LAST thing they want to do, is portray Americans as heroic historical figures... So they avoid it!!!

I could go much deeper into this, but Skuzzy would nail me with the banstick....!

Yeah I miss dogfights too.  One of the best shows ever!  The production values were probably too high, and there's a limited amount of people in this world with the sophistication required to properly appreciate aerial combat.

I loved the Swords, Knives and Axes one, first place I learned about the German school of swordsmanship. I've been throwing it in the face of elitist Japanese sword buffs ever since. :D

I noticed about two years ago that the History Channel seems to think they have to compete for viewers with the Discovery Channel and the SciFi Channel. (ie- Monsterquest is on opposite Ghost Hunters. Or at least it used to be, dunno for sure now. And WTF is 'The Universe' doing on there? Doesn't that crap belong on TDC? Oh, thats right, they had their own 'Planet Earth' series running at the same time, silly me...)

I've actually sent them about a dozen nasty emails over the last 3 years or so (starting with two weeks straight of NOTHING BUT the 1906 SanFran earthquake) and I get the same form response "Thank You For Your Input" letters every time. The last year or so I only watch THC when its a show that got DVRed for me (Like Lock 'n Load), almost never watch it 'live', because its only something worth watching once a week.

It isn't even 'The Hitler Channel' anymore, like it was for years. Now its 'SciFi Lite'.
Treize (pronounced 'trays')- because 'Treisprezece' is too long and even harder to pronounce.

I like the Engineering an Empire series; it is a great series for seeing the effects of how some of these people did things that we would have a hard time re-creating today even with our supposed technological insight.

The History Channel's suck factor is growing.
Along with most of network TV.
The reality show trend is a measure of the nations growing stupidity.

My question is how can people watch reality tv.  I have tried but it's just so hard to dumb down enough to enjoy most of it.

Try History international, its a little better...
But they seem to have a programming cycle that resets over and over... And they only change it quarterly...
They do have some interesting stuff on occasionally... And if ya miss it, It'll be on again soon enough, LOL!!!!

Last night was a multiepisode on the Gestapo.. Was pretty good, mmmm 7.5, on my scale... Had some good info,
and no major innacuracies, that I could tell... Also period film wasn't miss ID'd with the narration... Overall pretty good!!!

Strange how some of the nastier social aspects of that nazi era, are being paralelled right now.. Such as control of media!!!
Indoctrination of the young!!! Demonization of opposition thru "Message control"!!! It is all, OBVIOUS AS HELL!!!

This is exactly why, hard core history as a topic, is getting glossed over... The powers that be, definately
don't want the public to notice these blatent paralells with a very dark past.... All signs of a DARK FUTURE on the horizon!!

his voice is very irritating, i was in the marines, the DI's do not talk like that ALL the time.
Gunny has been taking over acting lessons from William Shatner...that's the only thing that irritates me about him.

I did have a DI that talked like that, all the time. Friggin former Recon nutcase, did a tour in Cambodia, or so he claimed...he ate onions and garlic for breakfast just so he could spend the entire day in your face.

I like most of the programming on the history/nat geo channels...it's all owned by the same corporate turds anyway. Just like every other commercial station, they sell "popular television". Anything to make you watch it...even the stupid "reality" b.s. (which is sensationalized reality). Just have to take it with a grain of salt.

Remember until about what 20(?) years ago, Christopher Columbus was the first European to step foot on the "new world"...now we all know better...everything we think we know about history changes as new evidence is found.
