Video Card on board 8100 vs 6600GT
« on: September 28, 2009, 08:50:00 AM »
I've been away from the game since February of this year and have just got a general PC at home now, with all the recent changes to the game I'm struggling with framerate (esp. with fire/smoke) even on very low settings.

The PC has an 8100 video card built into the motherboard, but I have an old 6600GT card knocking around would it be worth slapping it in to gain a better FR and graphics?

General spec of the PC is:
- AMD Athlon x2 240
- 4Gb Ram

Thanks

Going to a VC would free up CPU cycles, it should be better than the on board.

Thanks for that, just switched it was actually was very quick to do and with the sliders right over to max detail/distance and detailed terrian turned off I have a solid 60fps.

Just try moving the sliders around and you should be able to get decent FR's with some detail.   You have more than enough RAM and have freed quite a bit of CPU cycles up.   Hi Res pack would be optional, but I'd go either with 512 or 1024 for textures.

You're welcome.

I believe he's saying that he maxed the game settings and is running smoothly. :D

Yep running on max sliders, detailed water & high res pack.  Just missing the detailed terrain and self shadowing.
