(I'm not asking for this plane in AH just sharing its beauty)


 

   

The above pic shows how tall the Do 335s landing gear was -- a 6 ft man could walk under the wing without crouching.

 

 

A restored Do 335 at Deutsches Museum in Munich, the aircraft was restored by Dornier in 1975.

Well when Do-335 gets int arena, I bet P47 series will be already upgraded to N, or preferably to M model. I don't recal their top speed from top of my head, but it's not that much lower, so all I'll need is couple of K above you

I want it! But some of you think this thing is a dogfighter. <shakes head no> Sorry guys. this thing (and look at it) was meant to grab alt and knock down hig flying bombers. This aircrat would be dead meat for P-51H's and 47M's as all three had top speeds within a few mph of each other. But the 51 could turn and so coud the 47. This baby had very unstable flight characterisitcs from what I've read.
 BTW, here is a scan of a painting of a DO-335 that is available from the artist himself. Never release, one of a kind..

hehe, that B model (Zerstorer)with 2x Mk 103s in the wings looks MEAN too!

Had the war lasted longer they would have been equipped with the Rheinmetall-Borsig MK 112, a 55 mm cannon which was basically an enlarged Mk 108, it fired a shell that weighed 3.3 lb, the weapon weighed 605 lb(!).
It fired at 300 rpm and had muzzle vel. of 1,950 fps. Only 10 examples were ever made.

B model would rock.  3 x MK 103, 2 x MG 151, and 4 x 250 kb bombs if I recall correctly.  Zerstorer from hell.

The Do 335 was originally designed as an all-weather and night fighter. Later variants were designated as Zerstorer or Night fighters.

Shortly after its first flight a Do 335 V9 prototype was delivered to the Luftwaffe experimental station at Rechlin, there test pilot Heinrich Beauvais, who had more experience testing German aircraft that anyone else attained a level speed in the V9 of 472 mph, it had remarkable acceleration, possessed excellent handling characteristics and was extremely maneuverable for its size. These tests were conducted with the DB 603 A-2 in both pusher and pull positions, later Do 335 versions had powerplants of 2 DB 603 E and propsitions for DB 603 E-1 and LA that never materialised.

What about the weapons bay on the A-0 and A-1?  Also the A-1 was supposed to have wing hardpoints for bombs (although I have never seen any photos of this).  Who wrote this book you have?  I must have it!
