Only if you're not a P-38 fan.

Well if I wanted to build my own for FSX it would end up costing more time away from AH and I value that time a great deal so $36 is a bargain. I waste enough time making skins for all the P-51s that are still flying (and there are a bunch of them). Supporting the guys that keep FSX supplied with planes like this is another good reason. Eventually someone is going to come up with the idea for a Reno style race online and I have plenty of planes to choose from.  :D

HA u think 36 dollars is bad?

alphasim's c17 which was just released a few days ago is 60

there was another group that had something for 80

there is always someone stupid enough to buy them... if it costs more than 20 and you buy it your stupid.
if your addon is more than the game your stupid... :D i dont care how much extras you get with it, that is rediculous to pay that ammount.

i only do freeware, projectopensky mainly.

Paying more than $20 makes you stupid? Ha!

The whole idea of market value comes in to play here. I value the P-38 more than I do $36 (less than an hours wages). If I had to make that airplane myself it would take me probably three months of free time to CAD it... then figure out how to convert it to their format... then I have to learn how FSX applies textures and how the panel is all worked in and more than I care to know about anything... all the while NOT flying AH or FSX either one.

No $36 is fine thanks. I am fortunate they value the $36 more than they do being the only one to have their P-38.

See how that works? Man! Imagine if we could apply the same theory to everything!  :D

$36 dollars also equals 2.4months of AH... if your a modeler and know what your doing and very well prepared, you could a plane made in probably a month get it finished textured and tested...

Yes but even though I CAN model anything (and I mean anything) in CAD I dont know squat about FSX or how to get a model into the simulator. It would take hundreds of hours and my time is worth more to me (and my employers) than $36/hr.

What I described is how free trade and marketing work and Im all for it! Its not worth it to you fine then dont buy it. :D

its actually quite simple... you just use the sdk that comes with the game. most people use gmax though to model things.

Well its amazing to me that I can learn to use a program as complex as autocad (I custom design corporate jet interiors) and even program the thing in lisp and also use 3D Studio (part of my job also) and yes I figured out how to plugin the SDK. After that I could not find a clue as to what to do with the SDK because they give samples but no 'how-to' or manual or readme or anything. Its a shame too because I would pay through the nose for a good book on how to mod FS but obviously it has never occured to anyone to sit down and write one out.

No I disagree that it is 'simple.'

I took the P-38 for a spin and tried to see how she looks in daylight and how she handles in heavy weather. If this is really how the 38 handles then the 38 probably did not fly in any kind of storm. I love the sound of the turbo-superchargers but after takeoff I cutback to a modest setting and let the plane do its job. At a true airspeed of 280 knots I got to exactly the same altitude as before and so I engaged full power and tried to climb again. After about nine minutes the turbo-superchargers started to sound like rusty buckets grinding together and then I realized the engines were cooking just as they burst into flame. I powered off and feathered the props and put the plane in a dive to put the flames out but while trying to restart sounded like a good idea it just didnt work and I set the plane down just off Appalachicola after dropping the externals. Next time I will have to record the flight!  :aok

Wow, you don't even need anyone to shoot you down. You can do it to yourself. ooo. aaaah. <crickets>

... includes aspects of real flight you dont find in AH like engine management and performance degradation. Not that Im asking for that as it would make things a little too difficult to populate an arena.

Actually .. there are some very cool, fun planes to fly in MSFS.

I thoroughly enjoy the Mustang these guys put out .. in their fighters group I also got the Jug, the Emil 109, and the Spit 1.

http://flyawaysimulation.com/

I also have a Hustler (4 J-79's in AB will definitely get you outta the pattern in a hurry :)
..a Peacemaker (takes *all* that LAX has to get it up, and best be headin seaward, not inland ..but she's beautiful at speed with some air under her)
..a Connie .. and a bunch of others just for fun.
Even a highly detailed Tomcat ..o ya . . pattern is full eh? -evil grin-

just a few of the models I have collected over the years that I fly in MSFS now an then ..some are just awesome, some are just plain fun :)
