shore batteries
« on: October 09, 2009, 02:36:39 AM »
I would like it possible to bump people out of shore batteries. Use rank like the CVs. Ive seen it too many times someone in the shore battery at a field not shooting, CV almost ashore, in range, in full view of battery, and not a shot fired for hours on end (ok maybe a stretch). Not saying shennannigans, just saying. (SHENNANNIGANS!!!)  fire away.

I say no to the rank idea Texas.  However I would love to see icons above the shore battery, so heavy ridicule weapons can be employed against offenders.

I am not even sure the person in the SB appears on local vox.  Process of elimination would tell who's in the SB if it did.  But I agree icon showing who's in the SB would help and I also agree that you should be able to kick them out.  I usually ask who is in it and if they are not shooting offer help.

I've thought about the elimination deal, but can't when there is 20-30 people like there usually is defending vs a CV.

Don't bump em , cuz I would be really pissed off to get bumped after ranging CV - however we do need to know who is there, for sure. I have watched it happen CV in range, shore battery occupied but not shooting.Could it be they have gone "afk" if so time limit the occupnacy if no movement - your out. Just a thought.

I disagree with the OP. Keep in mind that the Shore Battery has a VERY long reload time. And what may seem like a long time to the pilots in the air seems like an eternity to the gunner who almost has the CV ranged. (True story, I got chewed out for not reloading the SB fast enough  :()

Those of us experienced in SB usage certainly know that people "fall asleep" in them rather often, though. As another point, I don't usually fire even as fast as the gun reloads in order to more easily track my fall of shot.

I agree, though; friendly icons for manned guns. I'd love to see them on all manned positions, but that brings about the issue of the CV's guns...a pool of icons flooding the deck would make landing interesting. So, I dunno.

Because I am too lazy to type all this out again:

http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,224948.0.html

Its always funny when the cv comes in close to a base, nobody can ever get in the shore battery to take command.

Example from last night Titanic map:
CV is well with-in range and turret angle, shore battery is manned with an unknown player who will not shoot.  CV proceeds to circle in same spot for over 1/2hr. in front of SB.  Amazingly who ever was in the shore battery was not answering. Simple name tag will work wonders.
And you know for sure he wasn't shooting?  Perhaps it was a new guy who was simply not adept?

A squaddie once started ranting and raving about not being able to get into the shore battery, that the goofball in there wasn't even shooting, how unfair that was, etc. etc.  Went on for about a good five minutes.  It was quite comical . . . especially since I was the one in the shore battery, and had gotten about six hits on the CV while he was ranting about how I wasn't even shooting.

Now, it may have been better for us if I had gotten out and let him sink the CV, but how am I supposed to get any better if I don't practice?  Besides, it was fun to hear him sputter . . .

I'll add that do not think kicking anyone out of a SB or field gun using rank or any other means is a good idea in the least bit.  New people need to learn somehow.  Experience is the best way to learn.  By kicking someone out, you are merely disincenting them from ever trying again and making an already frustrating process (learning) even more frustrating.

Lot's of people on here wouldn't have been able to develop their gunnery skills, if somebody was kicking them out of the SB, just because they were idle for while.  Maybe there was another CV out in the distance he was lining up on, who knows.  I've seen that happen before.
I understand that the immediate threat is the CV nearest shore, but who knows what he was doing.  Maybe just learning.

In the latest incident, the cv was almost icon range from shore for an hour, not worried about SB, SB not firing. It wasn't some one learning, it wasn't some one even trying. Not nearly the first time. I know there are times when some one isntr getting job done and that is different. But several times it is takin by someone not exaclty on the same side.
