Landing Craft
« on: January 29, 2001, 03:40:00 PM »
I would sure love to see Landing Craft, launchable from carriers or troop ships, able to assualt the beaches with 10-20 drunks at enemy bases near the water... the player would be the driver naturally, and control the landing door. Wow, to hear the rounds bouncing off that door would be cool, and major beach assualts would really be interesting...
Just a thought... don't know if its been brought up or not

Yes it has been bought up before (Loads of times)

Even "From the horses mouth so to speak....." (LVT mentioned here by Pyro)

HTC has explicitly said they were working on an LST for 1.05 but didn't get it done on time.

I would assume it will turn up in 1.06

This would mean, presumably, you can simply land an M3 on a beach and drive it to a base.

I would also presume you can land a panzer or an Osty, too.

Landing Ostys will turn out to be a major whine focus, I think, though :-)

Torgo, it is NOT an Landing Ship Tank (those things are full sized cargo ships with doors and ramps out the front).

Its the LVT.  An LVT is an AMPHIBIOUS tracked vehicle, armed with with a few machineguns.  You spawn an LVT with a load of troopers, paddle to the shore, drive overland to the enemy base, and dump the troopers out there.

In otherwords it will be a M3 that can also drive in water, but is slower.

DOH! I went back and read the news board and saw it was indeed an LVT.

Somehow that mutated to me thinking it said "LST" and I ALSO confused an LST and an LCT :-)

So I got it fixed in my head that it would be a single-vehicle landing craft :-)
