Anyone run AMD

yes that is correct you have to have the correct bios to unlock the other cores, i tried to unlock my triple core
and I don't have the correct Bios, thres a new Bios I havn't installed to see, will eventually.
I run  Phenom, no need for optimizer, no spinning board here.

I used to run AMD but after they made socket 939 obsolete early after tricking people into buying into it, I don't have any brand loyalty.  I go for the fastest that I can afford.  And since the difference between a fast AMD chip and a fast intel chip is under $100, with total system price difference being MAYBE $200 at most for a noticeably faster system, I went with Intel when I replaced my AMD socket 939 dual core cpu.  Intel E8400 cpu with a very very mild overclock, ASUS P5Q pro mobo, 4 gig of DDR2, a reasonably fast 500GB SATA drive (one big partition backed up daily with norton ghost), and an nvidia gtx 260 vid card.  It's plenty fast enough for even new games, and it cost about the same as it would have cost to get an AMD system with the same performance.  Once you drag yourself up out of the bargain bin, Intel wins the price/performance as well as any pure performance comparison, hands down.

If you can afford it, go intel even if you have to buy a slow cpu at first.  Get a decent mobo and some decent ram, and upgrade the cpu when you can.  Socket 775 has lasted more than twice as long as socket 939 did...  AMD gets the finger for making socket 939 obsolete when they released socket AM2 cpus.  Intel didn't pull that stunt (they have at least 3 consumer sockets that all have fast cpus available) and it means my next upgrade will probably be nothing more than dropping a faster intel cpu into my current rig instead of another whole system refresh that AMD made me do.

I still have an old 939 board (two actually but one is in the box it came in) and it still runs AHII on 7950s in SLI but primarily it has become my writing computer and the wifes internet shopping system. AMDs trick with the 939 to AM2 and ATIs trick with the early Radeons not working as advertised left me as sour as I am for Creative... which means it isnt going to happen.
