I think that it should include modelling damage to the pilot relief tube.

You know that thing is only to pee in right?

I feel sorry for SAPP if their blenders take a hit.

LOL, like the scene from Memphis Belle...

Well guessing from the evil con mission bird, your going to see struts and turnbuckles in the rigging in the damage list. That means they can be destroyed (fail) or damaged which can add a variety of effects depending on the damage level.

What effect it will have on a wing to have a strut or turnbuckle destroyed I don't yet know.
But I bet it won't be able to handle as much stress or speed.

Remember it was a 4x increase in the number of damage points.
Plus before it was a all or nothing arangement. Now partial damage and varying effects will be modeled.
But getting that setup and running is why they need the WWI arena. So we can iron out the bugs, find out what works and what doesn't.

They have those wrapped in Dragon Skin armor.
Treize (pronounced 'trays')- because 'Treisprezece' is too long and even harder to pronounce.

I'm failing to understand the need for a ww1 arena to test an expanded damage model.  If they want to do a new era with new planes then fine but what's stopping them from just making planes compatible with the current plane set with an expanded damage model?  I don't see the causal relationship.

Because what happens if they screw it up? Better to do it with the WWI era arena, which isn't the main part of the game, then the LW MA where the bulk of the player are. This is just my guess.

And just thought of this, if they are including partial damage into the mix, the guns on the WWI planes are extremely weak so the all or nothing damage system we have no wouldn't really work. So it would be the perfect place to test different effects from shooting holes into the wing instead of taking it off.

Probably because testing within a WW1 arena takes more variables out of the damage equation, and lets them see how their "experimental" damage model is handling things.  In the regular plane set there is a large variance of performance by the ordinance, from small caliber machine guns to extremely large cannon, let alone plane performance envelopes.

One would probably try to remove those variables and see how the model handles very similar rounds on different planes that don't have huge speed differentials, such as a WW1 arena.   Just a scientist's view, mind you.

I still think this new endeavor is someone's stubborn pipe dream.  I have to admit, I'm skeptical on this.  But, again, if it makes the game better for some and brings new subscriptions, that's great.

I don't know enough about the damage model to ask.

All I know is when bullets or shells hit my plane, that's bad. :aok

Wonder if engine damage is going to take effect in this.  For ex. Over reving, extended use of Wep.  All of these causing degrading of engine performance.  Will be interesting.

My take is that damage will have more visuals.

Would be good to see less catostrophic damage to the engine(s) pilot, airframe. Maybe some degradation of performance instead of blood/oil all over the windscreen or a wing/tail falling off all the time.
