10 Years!
« on: October 24, 2009, 12:24:09 AM »
Well logged on to the current version, flew some sorties and never made too much of an bellybutton of my self.
Was climbing to alt admiring the hellcat and realized its been 10 years since I started in the beta.
Tones of planes, tones of players,  Lots of vehicles. Soon to be WW1 arena.
How time flys. I probably played 4 years of that 10 years. lol

I may not have quite as long under the belt, but consider my age; it's almost 1/3 of my life... :p

"That comes out to $1,800"

More unless you took into account the initial price per/mo that AH was after beta
which was much higher.

Cripes it has been 10 yrs. OMG.  It feels like yesterday I was flying the crates in
Red Baron and then finding & trying AW (4W?) out on a juiced up IBM (AT?) in
offline mode. Putting the B17 into autopilot and jumping around the guns to
shoot the offline drones flying by. lol.

Well all depends on how you look at it.

In my case, its been 10 years well spent.  :)

The respected enemy's,  teammates, strangers turned to friends, friends turned to brothers.
Yeah well worth it IMO.

That 1800.00 invested in most any equity fund would have netted you about 1670.00 over that same 10 years (because the last 3 years have been so awesome to us all).......as Im sure you are aware, we desire to have more money than what we invested right?  excellent choice on the 1800.00...wish I had mine back from Fidelity/

I've only been here for 8 years, but did have 4 years in AW before that. Haven't taken any time off during all that either..... just a glutton for punishment I guess   :x

Ya, I took allot of it off and havent been fully addicted in about 7 years I would say.
Amazing the thrill of a fur ball in the arena though.
Ya, it was free for beta, then 30 bucks, I was a trainer for a short while, then flew for a while at the 30 price before they dropped it down.

1800, even if I had paid that much is less then a great DSLR lens. Less then a good canoe, less then a great TV. 1800 is half of what it costs me to go down to the states for an NFL game.
The cost is nothing. Its the time.

Looking at where AH has gone and  not gone, it is clear to me know that these guys had a very refined and powerful view of what was important in the game. Trying to explain to others what a powerful "team" and comraderie feeling you get with a good squad of guys who fly together every night is impossible. So everything that was implemented that built that was golden, other things are optional.

It is also clear that the hardest thing for HT and Pyro to wrestle with is the game of the game. It was terribly painful just to get the perk and eny systems into the game. The knights basically showed up for two months in nothing but hundreds of Hog Cs before the requests for something to ballance it went from "thats whining" to thats self evident. Little things, like you dont get kill messages until you land them. It wasnt that way at first, but did it ever improve the game when it got in.
Makeing the bombing so much more challenging, seems like a technical thing, but it is very much a game thing.
I still thing Sorti rates would be a great enhancement to the game, and would seem self evident after the fact.
That first sorti, in a spit IX that seemed to me to be shaking apart.  Doesnt seem like yesterday, its seems like a long time ago.
