Updated Mosquito
« on: November 10, 2009, 02:18:30 PM »
I currently dont have any pictures right now to compliment this thread, but I would like for the Mosquito to be updated. It is time.

The current version has the saxaphone exhaust baffles, and because of that, its a little bit slow. By stripping off the saxaphone exhausts, and using the ejectors, you could potentially gain 10-15 mph of speed and climb. Thats the difference of either being slower or faster than the Spit16. Having the ejector exhausts would certainly make the Mossie more competitive in the MAs. It can be safe to say that the current Mossie in game is a little bit "under powered" compared to the majority of Mossies flown in WW2. With an update, the Mossie in game would perform very very well like it did in history.

So in this respect, I would like to see not only an updated version of the Mossie, but with improved performance in terms of speed and climb by removing the saxaphone baffles and replacing them with the ejector exhausts.

For those who want facts and information, here is an old thread that has a lot of valuable information regarding the Mosquito's performance and history:

I do so want a Mossie without the flame dampers.  The resulting improvements in speed and climb would make it a far more capable aircraft in AH.

Would make it much more competitive. Get it some more use as well.

Yeah, even though I'm not much of a fan...at least one other model of Mossie would be nice.

Wasn't there a Canadian built fighter bomber model that was really fast and well equipped?

Could never work out why HT put shrouds over the exhausts of the Mosquito FB.VI, which was a day fighter-bomber. Now the Mk.XVII nightfighter with AI Mk.X centimetric radar, that's a different matter.

Better still, let's have the ultimate wartime nightnighter Mossie, the NF.30, most (all?) of which had unshrouded exhausts for their two-stage supercharged Merlins.

That was the FB.Mk 26, which is exactly the same as the Mk VI we have now except the engines were made in the USA.

It was used for both daylight and nigh operations and for obscure reasons, the performance data it with the flame dampers is a lot easier to find.

Every watch drag racing? Little blue flames coming out the exhaust pipes sometimes...planes didn't have 8 feet of exhaust pipe and a muffler.

Those look to be B.Mk XVI or PR.Mk XVIs.  They have two speed, two stage Merlins.  You can tell by the longer nacelles.

Would be nice to fly one of those, I bet.  :aok

-Just a complimentary picture. Notice the ejectors exhausts.

On closer examination of the photo, you call also see the bellies bulging from the enlarged bomb bay for the 4,000lb 'cookie'.
