What I'm gathering from HiTech/general AH policy...

Bypassing is fair game for reporting, but it's up to your peers in the arena/BBS to decide what passes for abuse and what doesn't and actually DO the reporting. And after that, it's up to HTC to decide whether you deserve a mute.

So if you get muted, not only do you have to piss somebody off in the arena, but you have to be abusive enough for HTC to decide your behavior warrants a mute.

Personally, I think that sounds fair. Under this system, if you get muted, you pretty much deserve it.

Rule of thumb:

Would you say it to your Mother?

If you tell your Mother or Father or boss "F that" are they ok with that?

I said something in this vein the other night (wasn't a directed insult or anything, but 'masking' nonetheless)....about 30 seconds later, got the little popup window saying buh-bye text for 10 minutes...obviously a human saw it...concluded I needed to be muted for it...was deserved

Na Stodd, I don't think I've ever reported anyone at all. I will normally just detune 200 or squelch ya if it's over the top.

I also won't come here and start a thread whine when I get caught circumventing the filter!

Ok just curious. Id probably to that as well. :aok

Thanks for the info!

I would highly recommend that be placed in the message from the program. If it's 8 days or 8 months, at least you would know where you stand.

I think a warning and a 10min- timeout is fair also, but a warning first. Secondly, talking trash in the dueling arena isn't smart. Do you really have to talk trash flying into furball lake? Did you think it was going to be a fair fight? It's nice too all these backseat administrators giving the noob a hard time. :D

Kinda wish that report system would be dissolved. And emplement a better squelch system, hense perma squelch!

Guess that's for the wishlist, yet Santa won't bring it this Christmas. :cry

So when you said "F!$% that", what four letter F word were you going for?

BTW, you are the one giving them the excuse to mute you, not the system. Don't F anything...see how that works for ya!  :aok

I'd say BBS rules somewhat apply to arenas..

As far as bashing, that's the tone I read into everybody else's posts. It's fine if I'm wrong on that.

On the other hand... him not being right does not make it FAIR. And that's my point. If this happened to me, I wouldn't be angry at being censored but with all the other versions slipping by, especially in AH where these variations are COMMON and almost accepted as substitutes. Maybe I am taking my personal lens to what the OP was asking about, but that's how I see it.

And with the cop, it's a completely different situation. There's ONE cop and therefore he can only catch one person at a time. The profanity filter could easily catch at LEAST the common variations that I've mentioned in addition to the less obvious F!(%*^ variation.

Edit: the proper police analogy in this case would be IGNORING the guy driving at 150 mph while catching the guy driving at 70 mph but trying to slow down to the limit when he sees the cop.

i don't see anyone bashing the dude. i see them giving him honest answers.
