Lord of the Rings was just incredible, i am not usually a fan of elf-like stuff too.

Apart from others already mentioned, i would say Terminator 2, The Great Escape and Anchorman.  You stay classy, San Diego.  :aok

The greatest of all movies would be The Blair Witch Project.

your joking right?
One of the all time stupidest movies ever made. Intriguing to only those with an IQ level lower then a grain of sand.
I found the movie irritating to watch.'

Its only redeeming quality was that the people that I know who saw it and thought it was great. Only reaffirmed to me my longstanding opinion that they were idiots to begin with.

Shawshank Redemption, followed closely by Holiday Inn.  Green Mile gets an honorable mention.

Casablanca.

There is alot of old movies that often get looked over.
That is one of them. Certainly can be listed in any all time greatest list.
"African Queen" is another

Another one believe it or not is "Gone with the Wind."  After years and years of dismissing it as a "chick flick" I watched it in its entirely for the first time a couple of years ago and was amazed at how much I enjoyed it and how well done it was.

Key Largo.

Older movies are often overlooked by todays younger crowd because of bad acting and/or lack of special effects.
But they really are a window into history and what people were like back in the day as the saying goes.
The speech. Mannerisms we all common IRL back when those movies were made.
Cant tell you how many times I've heard elderly people refer to a face as a "mug"
Or the time my father in law told a cop to "flap off, flatfoot"
Or use the word "see" in describing something much in the same way we hear "ya know" now.

Another great movie to add to the list. "Life with father."
Caught this one day on TV by accident and enjoyed it so much I went out and bought it

John Woo's 'Killer' raw clunky but in some ways true movie genius.

For you WW2 flying fans, "Dark blue world" is one of the better ones. Deep enough to watch for a couple of times.
It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)
