OMG!  A B-17 at altitude with a P-51 escort?  And they didn't get distracted by someone who wasn't a threat?

I wish more people would fly in historically accurate ways such as the above.  The only thing lame about it is coming here calling it lame.

I ran into the exact same situation one day except it was a Jug escorting and they were at 20K.  I killed two of the buffs, then the Jug and got to land my kills.  I really enjoy when you can get an escort out of position and make a run on his buffs with nothing he can do about it.  I can just imagine the fighter pilot  and the buff pilot  :uhoh and me   :t

In your scenario it was the figher pilot  :P and the buff pilot  :neener:  and you

Wow, you missed the point! But for goodness sakes take any opportunity to be self-righteous. The buffs were being escorted to bomb a factory. Personally I found that lame. Not the fact they were being escorted. I mean I cannot imagine myself saying hey, I'm doing a milk run, any escorts?!

Now as far as I am concerned by all means get escorts and fly as high as you like.

There is no such thing as a milk run when talking about prime time Late War.

There are guys out there like...(nevermind the names)...who make it a point to hunt said milkers down.  As long as there is one competant, smart, SA employing player on the other side, nothing is a sure bet.  Factories are there to be bombed, and it sounds like this bomber pilot was smart about it.

Understood. Still though, would you ask someone to escort you to a factory other than hq? MHO, it seems lame.

Perhaps it was a practice run? Maybe they were bored with horde vs horde? You call it lame; they thought it was fun.

I really don't know.

If I flew bombers I probably would, seeing as I would endeavor to do my best possible work.  I love engaging high buffs, especially when escorted.  It is a challenge, and for me, a situation that is too rare in the MA.  Additionally, I certainly prefer them going for factories, over front line active fighter hangers.  Now, that is lame to me...but that's a whole nuther discussion.

yea it is that stuff that tends to be missing in the MAs ...

if every once in a while a BG would hook up with a FG and just goes balls out throwing their weight around then the interceptor guys would need to get organized and thats when the fun would really get started ...

It's not that this never happens in the MA's. We do have occasionally such "organized" raids, the "MoMs" were such a thing.
Unfortunately, if advertised ahead they tend to attract a huge number of 262's and cannon planes waiting at 30k over the target area, which makes even getting to the target quite improbable no matter if escorted or not.

Sounds like a fun opportunity for some rare high-alt combat for me. I probably would have had fun in trying to neutralize or shoot down the escort first before attacking the bombers.

a couple weeks ago, i kept going way up high, as it seemed that i was getting picked, even when i was at 10-12k. cruisin along at 23k, i found another p-38. it was oldman22.

it was one of the most fun fights i've ever had. it was one of the hardest too. the 38 o doom is WAAAAYYYY different up there.

couple nights after that, i was flying around a sector looking for a con that i expected to find at 12-15k...and this night i just wanted to be higher, so i was around 20k again.

this time it was rv6flyer, and once again, one of the most fun fights ever.

both of those guys handled their 38's with excellence up there, and both were fun to fight.

that being said, i friggin HATE spending time to go that high usually.

I find combat at alt above 25k to be extremely challenging.  One tiny mistake can cost you the whole fight.  It really is fun and much more difficult then fighting in the trees.  I too do not understand why high alt combat is so looked down on.  Frankly I enjoy the challenge.

Helm ...out

i wouldn't say that hi alt combat is more difficult than fighting in the trees. it simply takes a different skillset to perform it successfully.

when i bomb, i generally never ask for an escort.....regardless of my alt or target. it's fun trying to see how many fighters i can take with me.

that being said, i don't spend much time in buffs.

one thing i AM curious about though.......last night in mw, i came upon a set of 24's at about 6k alt. dropped on em, using standard "slashing" pass. was trying to set up for the left drone, but messed up....and went for the lead.
first pass ignited him. 2nd or 3rd lit off the 2nd drone.

this guy came back multiple times. it seemed to me, that the 24's lit up like roman candles much more easily than i remember in the past.

Tonight just sucked on so many levels. Rooks were just spawn camping. I assume the other sides were as well. I head into a dar bar and it is all jets. Knits would not leave the safety of their base. I chase a B17 to a factory that is being escorted by a p51 at least 25k or more. Uh Read that again! You need escort to milk run!!!!. Lame level 70 as been achieved.
I find that quite common as well---many of the ones who dont take bases orbit their own bases at cloud level in packs, rarely leaving dar circle, rarely taking risk...yawn. In general, Bish more fun to fight, even the Bops

Oh please.  I was just having some fun with you but if anything you're OP was the self-righteous post; "I'm so bored... everyone else is so lame blah blah blah.
