Suggest some xbox 360 games for me

I got an elite yesterday. Was an impulse buy because it was so cheap.

Id like some suggestions to a handful of games that i should try. Try to not to think about the new releases but some that may be had at a discount based on their age. No driving/car games and i perfer FPS/action/adventure games i think. The only older console games ive really liked was splinter cell for xbox and some star wars game for the old playstation. Halo was ok too. I also have ghost recon 2 i think for the old xbox but found it dull and repetitive.

What is important to me?

1. open maps and not very linear gaming.
2. online fun is a nice bonus
3. it should have an interesting story and good singleplayer part

If you like story and fun multiplayer maps, go with Halo ODST, or any other Halo's. All have great stories and are always fun multiplayer.

Gears of war, bioshock, left for dead, and assassins creed are good games you can pick up cheap.

Seconding Bioshock -- one of the best games you can play for it's storyline, immersive atmosphere, and gameplay.  It's single player though.

Apparently Halo (any of them tbh) and Mass Effect are quite good games.
