Ambient noises, nature sounds like birds chirping,

As long as they are just chirping, not flying right into my B17 props as I'm taking off.

Well you are not taking into consideration that each movement is data shared over the internet connection we all fly on and that any additional data will only muck up the works.
It can be purely client side. Since this does not in any way affect gameplay, there is no need to maintain a synchronized ambience between server and client. Therefore, there's no need to increase the bandwidth load in the implementation of this idea.

That would be correct except for the fact that what motherland is going to ask for next is hand signals.  :huh

how about if we just get a music cd and play it during the game.  no load in the game, everybody happy.  pretty sure somebody here can post links to some pretty cool ambience sounds.

Putting a pilot into the cockpit would cost polygons/rendering time and modeling effort. Still, would be nice though.

I used to be able to hear trains from miles away.
Here we are, living on top of a molten ball of rock, spinning around at a 1,000mph, orbiting a nuclear fireball and whizzing through space at half-a-million miles per hour. Most of us believe in super-beings which for some reason need to be praised for setting this up. This, apparently, is normal.

This could win the coveted 'Most Out-There Strawman of the Year' award if nominated.

We could also just sit in a box with a stick and close our eyes and pretend while making plane noises with our mouth, then we wouldn't have to buy these silly computer thingies.

I say +1. Pilot arms/feet and stuff would be nice, as well as guys driving jeeps and people running around at fields. Wouldn't mind seeing a flock of birds once in a while either.

Of course it could not since you have 'straw boss' wrapped up for all time.  :neener:

Various grunts and groans as shells are swopped in a tank.    Although I guess there already is a sound file  that could have that added.

Some sort of grunt as blood flies across the cockpit glass.

Birds in trees

Sheep on fields

Chickens at a farm

Waves on a beach

Drunks and pool play in the O Club.

In fact if HTC makes the object/sound file utility I am sure we can provide the sound files to suit. (probably limit to one (ambient) sound at a time fading in/out by distance/ priority)

Cows, pigs, horses, refugees leaving a flattened town. Nice but needs bandwidth/rendering/server resources.

Not really, as most of that stuff can be done client side only. You and I don't need to see the exact same refugee running away in the exact same manner.

Things like Cows, Pigs, and sheep can be static terrain objects, so would take no more server/bandwidth resources than a standard terrain would, as to the game they are just buildings or trees. Refugees running away is also something that can be done client side, as unless they would be strafable, there'd be no reason to keep track of them from the server.

What additional data?

Ambiance can be taken care of solely on the users computer, no data transmission required.

And to think, not one person in this thread has yet mentioned the fact that ambient sounds could be included in a client side soundpack...and I'm guessing no one has considered making such a request to one of the people creating sound packs yet...  ;)
