Just Saw Star Trek 2009

All I can say is Wow!! For Plot, comedy, intensity, story development etc.

Romulan to Kirk, while choking Kirk, "are you trying to talk?" Kirk, "I have your gun!" Boom or is that zwap.

I didn't like to plot. If it was just the basic story it would have been better than awesome.

Seeing old Leonard Nimoy just took the wind out of my sails......and the part where Kirk got dumped down on Hoth...oh wait.

They could have done better with the script.  Still, there was an amazing soul to the film.  Could have been really great.

I found the movie very dissapointing.

Special effects: lets just say older trek films had better. and the new torpedoes 'n shtuff.. wtheck? it was a fest of 'lets cram as many laser beams and explosions as we can in the few minutes of combat fx we got!' . It looks as if taken out of one of those old, cheap star trek web games. inside the ship? laughable just laughable.

actors: im torn on this. the new spock was believable, really well done. the new kirk actor wasnt that good.. its hard to pinpoint but i'd draw a similarity to him and how tom cruise acts these days: its visibly faked. the checkov actor did good but the the accent was waaaay overdone. capt pike was excellent though. I think the actors did ok given the horrid script they had.

plot: gawd horrible. even the situations and the storyline seemed copy/pasted in a rush and piled together into a last minute script. reminded me of the earlier jackie chan films where there's no transitional scenes to carry the plot along.

re-imagined or not its just pop commercialized garbage imo.

BS Tac.

If you had to start over with new younger actors this was the way to do it. The new phasers make more sense than the old infinite light beam version and the torpedos are also well done. Really everything about the movie was great stuff and if you were not entertained then you are just missing the old crew.

I wont be missing Shatner I can tell you that.

The Romulan was obviously insane though or he would have forced Spock to save Romulus now that they were in the past and I dont know what that red stuff is but if one drop could total a planet then that big glob that hit the romulan mining ship should have totaled the galaxy... but it was great entertainment.

Now can someone explain how the Enterprise had shields to save it from the core detonation if it didnt have a warp core? Still a great movie... in fact Im going to watch it again now.  :D

i liked most of the film apart from the plot.

kirks went from 3rd year cadet (out of 4 years) to get made up straight to captain at the end of the film.  :O
scotty creates a transporter that can beam onto a ship flying at warp millions of miles away when 90 years on in tng era they can only do it from orbit distances (200,000 miles or so)  :O

these and other bits like the above spoilt the film for me.

Tech Sgt. Chen remembered to store a replacement Berylium Sphere on board this time.  Oh wait...

We just rented it last night too. I enjoyed the film. The kids couldn't relate though.

Don't even need words for this thread:

It was all right I guess.  I'd give it a C+.  Certainly not the 95% Rottentomatoes.com overall critics rating gave it.  this summed up the movie for me:

In game callsign: not currently flying
Flying off and on since Warbirds

I liked it because I didn't have anything to compare it to. I used to think the Star Trek ships looked drab, especially when compared with the Galactica (old one) or an Imperial Star Destroyer. Seeing the Enterprise in action changed my mind though. Now, after having seen TNG and TOS, I do like this newer movie, though it is tied with TNG. Something about the universal applicability of "Make it so" is fantastic.

Simon Pegg, John Cho, the robo-cop, and Kirk's bike were the best parts, IMO.
