Zoney,
Join in on the fun. The more the merrier. There is no formal welcome mat, but if you are old enough, the beer flows freely in our virtual Officer's Club / Forum (if you can't tell from our posts). We may lay it on a bit thick on the BBB, but in the air you see multiple <S>s, Good Jobs, and Way To Go's handed out constantly.
You really have to come and see what it is about (like TC said be sure to read the Arena Message / MOTD). Mostly, climb as high as you want, depending on the set of players you most likely will have to come down to have any fights. One of the fun characteristics of the Arena, is that in about 2 minutes you can have an engagement. If you get BnZ'ed, you learn to evade and make the Zoomer loose his E.
The one thing that I have learned is that even the harshest (putting it in PC terms) critic, or frequently criticized player, will offer up valuable advice on how to improve skills. So, this might be better renamed the Training Arena for grown ups
(just kidding TC, after having played since
'99, I go to the Training Arena to get advice, that always seems to help step up my game).
"I've tried it a few times seems like there was always a big team against the small team, and nobody willing to switch to even it out."
I flew quite a bit in the AvA some tours back, mainly bombers but the occasional fighter sortie too. As a Brit with a feeling for history, I prefer to fly for the Allies. I'm sure that there are others who prefer to fly only for the Luftwaffe. You make a fair point but I suggest if you want more choice and don't mind fighting a three-cornered war, stick to the MA.
Happy trails!
Simba
You are correct, choosing your ride and playing the game, as Hitech has done a wonderful job in creating it, will always be a bigger draw. I really hope that you keep stopping in. Having flown with you guys Duxford Wing, you are exactly what the doctor ordered. Your Squad and Bruv's squad are almost mirror images, US/Euro players with large enough numbers to balance the fight. Jimson, had even offered up an "Afternoon Event" that would be favorable for my over seas friends. Let's keep our fingers crossed that your next visit will be better.
