Hi-Tech is right in that there is limited appeal.

What that limit is, remains to be seen.

I believe this arena can have some appeal to the same folks who like FSO and Snapshots, and anyone else who wants a break from the MA.

The fantasy is what you make of it. If your squad wants to wear silk scarfs and fly as wingmen, using brevity codes etc, calling each other "Major" and "Lieutenant" or whatever, this is a good place to do that.

You will be flying historical match ups.

I starting promoting the Monday event, so that people who wanted to try it could focus around a specific time.

It's working. For the past three weeks we've had some fun 10 on 10 fights, but I still hear people saying "I'd like to fly there, but it's always empty", so I will repeat MONDAY 10pm EST!!!!!

If you want to see it grow past this, then SUPPORT WHAT IS GOING ON NOW!!

It's true, we may never get 200 players, but I think we can get 40 to 50 to fly on Monday nights.

Once that is consistent, it could branch out from there.

Right now, it is mostly a dogfight arena, but as numbers grow, play will become more varied.

Turn scoring and captures on and the arena will fill up in no time.

Base captures are enabled, and there is an AvA score page.

For the past 3 weeks, many more are saying they had a great time than are saying it's not cool and fun. Read the positive comments in the AvA forum.

It is cool and fun, and it could get better and better.

All you have to do is show up.

Edit:   Before anyone from JG54 jumps on that, don't, it isn't directed at you.   But who "it is" posted in this thread recently.   So don't bother dredging up any "conspiracy theories".   It is well known for those who were there, what happened and all agree, "it was uncalled for".

I've suggested it before, I really wish the AvA guys would make a sticky in their forums and announce the planeset.

This way, I can look in there each week to see if the planeset is something I can enjoy. Once I log on, I'm not going to bother to look. I have far more time to surf the forums at work than I do to play AH at home.

The CT Arena / AvsA arena has always drawn my interest.......from its inception........

it just needs more players with the mindset of playing on even fields(sides)........ it is disheartening when in the past one could log in and find 10 to 14 on the side with the best performing planes/bombers andonly 2 guys on the defending side trying to hold them off......

granted I have not seen this in a very long time.......

The AvsA is not about 1 vs 1 matchups...... they do happen more frequently or 2 vs 1 or 3 vs 3 fights..but most times it is on even keel

jimson begged for someone to host a snapshot or FSO at a time he could participate.....there was no way for this to happen, so he did the next best thing and got with the AvsA Staff and has promoted these Monday Night Rumbles in the AvsA.... my hats off to him.....

Wotan, BigMax, Oldman, Shane, Gremlin, Redd, Urchin, Levi, Dedalos, Eagler, 1Duke1, MrFork, TheBUG, Shifty, and a slew of others made the AvsA ( well the CT ) what it once became and it is up to use to keep it going.......

one thing it is not is an elitist Arena for 1 vs 1 fights or what have you......... it is an arena where we can go for more historical type plane match ups......and every now and then the AvsA Staffers even run campaigns that last for several weeks....... like an on going daily Scenario....

This Arena just takes a certian kind of player, not just another gamer........... bring in the gamer types and count the scores then this arena will go all to hell...........IMO

just watch out for that damn supa Spy ( Dedalos )  :bolt:

All of it is important; most of it vital; and all of it just too much for one brain to absorb in 1-2 lessons" TC

This is a false assumption, the reality is the AvA only appeals to a limited set of players do to many factors. Since there is only a limited number of players it is very difficult to find enough online at one time to have a sustained fight.

HiTech

:headscratch:  At first I read into this statement to mean that it wasn't worth the bother  , but then after a second read, I decided that your point is that even at it's best, at some point folks log off  :bolt: and there is not enough interest in the AH community to keep the numbers above say 10 or 15  :airplane: players.  With that I agree.

This is the kicker, there is hardly ever more than 5 players in the Arena during EST afternoon play.  Yet, still the  :joystick: experience of fighting one or two other equally matched and historically accurate opponents  :rock can't be beat.

A lot of great comments in this thread, pro (mostly) and con.  I like the idea to sticky planesets on the Forum, but for those who don't think that flying Wildcats against Bf110C's is interesting, don't know what they are missing.  I have had my days of .50 cals against German taters  :cry complaints, but have since seen the error of my ways (after being shown a thing or two from many of the regular AvA  :old: masters).

A big shout out to my brutha from another mutha Wojo!!!  Thanks for keeping GruppeOutlaws Website going.  Will be posting some pictures from the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum soon.

I'll take the time to do that then, just look in the AvA forum. It won't be a sticky though.

And I thank you. Did you have fun?

The guys running the AvA have tried several things to make it interesting.  However, is should have been interesting by its nature of the historical mach ups.  I mean that is what every one is here for right? (if I am reading the BBS right).  The AvA should have had more people than the MA.  To me it is obvious that the majority of the players could not care less about that.  Its sad, but I think that is the case here.

I logged in last night.  One country had flight disabled.  Guess what the other two players on the other side were doing.  :lol

Yes, I think I mentioned that somewhere.  But, after an hour or hour and a half I was tired of it and had to log.  Not a problem if there was traffic in and out of the arena but the way it was at the time, that was 10% of the population.

That happens from time to time, it gets screwed up and needs a reset.

Baby steps, I guess.

An hour or two event was about what I was hoping for, just so folks could take a break from the MA and have a little historical fun.

Yeah, it was sad seeing them pork a base and I couldn't even get up to fight them.

HiTech

I think you need a caveat here, which is that the AvA only appeals to a limited set of players within the subscription base of AH.  The people who really insist on historical matchups, or who abhor the Spit-vs-Spit arena concept, never sign up.

I know.  I was not complaining about the set up.  I was pointing out the mentality of the average AH player
