My grandpa in Michigan made a "wormer" for nightcrawlers when I was a kid. It really works well, but it's dangerous and I don't recommend it. He used a 50' extension cord, and bared the wires at the end. He soldered each wire to a steel rod with a sharpened end. Then he put each rod in a block of wood for a handle, and wrapped it with electrical tape. You plug the cord into an electrical socket and stick the two rods into the ground in a grass lawn about 5 feet apart. The worms come out of the ground very smartly. Don't step between the rods, though, especially when the grass is damp. You get "poked". I think I prefer your method,SirLoin...
