Hmmm Zygote....you might post you stats against the pony...let us see how scary ya are when fightin one.

Unless of course your post about seeing 51's was not talking about shooting them down in a fighter, but rather while on your arse in an ostwind or a buff.

Talks kinda cheap :D

.... ask around and see where and how high we were fighting in our Mustangs last night.

Basically, you guys don't know what you're talking about WRT to the 13th.

See ya up there... and down there.   ;)

Ah, the 13th TAS. The monsters who know how to get the workings out of their aircraft, the P51.

If they stay within the aircraft's best operating envelope, which they do 85% of the time, they are unbeatable.  One of the reasons I fly this SIM is the chance I may catch one of them operating in the other 15%

They are always a pleasure to fly against!

 :)

HeHE!!

Rock: Well that's where I got it, he's my son.
Powell: Really Rock, well I'd like to meet him.
Rock:  No ya wouldn't.

Ok... I will ask the obvious... Why do you fly 51's then?   they are not good all around planes.   As was stated... they have an envelope that is about 85% that if you stay in it... you are untouchable.   You can fly low and be untouchable if you are careful and have enough support.

No.. I would love to see you fly them in a late war only arena with some of the guys (who have spoken up here) who love late war planes and the style that late war planes demand.

I think that I would much rather meet you all in an early war setting flying say, 40's.  I'm sure you would do well but a lot worse than you do in the current arena.  Teamwork is allways a help.   I know for a fact that if yu were say a  Spit 5 squad (in the current arena)then you would have huge losses in the arena over time.

Your plane choice fits your style.  Nothing wrong with that.   The arena allows it.  I'm just saying that it would be more fun with more parity.   And... no need for apolodgies or excuses or denial.

and... ya gotta admit... it's pretty pitiful when the only guys that think you are fun are..... LW.   Like going to see a german comedian.

LOL, there were a group of about 8 51s that came over A3 at 20k+.  I never got to see who they were because the cowards kept going north and left us to schwack the livin toejam out of their friends below.
Poor selfish bastids.

Yep, get a 13th guy down low, he dies  ;)

I do remember the pony horde at 39k in the isles map a few tours back... became so obnoxious we usually just gave them the field instead of having to climb all the way up to be gangbanged  :D  :D  :D

Sad they fly that crappy plane, they would do so much better in the 38 *G*

Viper, well, it wasn't us.

Laz.. the German comedian line is a great one.

Why do we fly them? Because we like them, obviously.

They aren't the best but flown right they are good...  but subjectively I think most of the 13th thinks they are the best looking and they have an irresistable mystique for us.

Clearly, we don't pick the plane we think we could "score" highest in. If we did, we'd be in something with cannons. I also think, given the talent available (and I'm not one of the talented; I can't see fer toejame any more and thus I can't shoot. Time for a 60" monitor!) the 13th would be respectable in just about any plane in the inventory (except maybe the 202).

If you're looking for true parity, then everyone would have to fly the same plane, same loadout, right?

All T&B planes are not created equal either. Were we to switch to any of those, there would be some better, some worse. All have strengths and weaknesses somewhere within.

I personally like the mixed nature of the arena. I enjoy not knowing what threat is coming next.

Last nite a few of us cruised down towards 7 from 8 at about 15k. Met an equal number of higher -51's and engaged. As usual, next thing you know we're down in the sea spray turning and burning with other -51's, Spits, LA's, Zekes... and we did OK. As the fight drifted towards the enemy base the numbers became overwhelming and we decided to bug out on the deck. It was a tough egress. Nearly back to our base and... 262's diving in! Had a great time jinking out of the gun solution for about 6 passes until I ran out of gas (using the WEP killed my reserve). Zigrat nailed me as I ditched.

Great sortie, truly enjoyable. Started out about 15K against other B&Z aircraft that were higher, descended into a T&B fun fest multi v multi, tough egress followed by the B&Z attacks by jets. I think I might have made the base with a bit more gas.

Anyway, it was 30 minutes of pure all-aspect fun.

YMMV.

I, for one, like the diverse nature of the MA.

The CT idea, in its present iteration, is clearly a total failure.

I'd like to see them give your particular "dream sheet" a try now. I used to be a total T&B guy through my AW DOS and WB days. I enjoy it. But I also enjoy what I'm doing now. (...and again, what the 13th does now is a far cry from what most of you think we do. I invite those of you who doubt to ride along some evening.)

One faction has had a shot at their dream arena. I don't see why a group of vocal T&B guys shouldn't get their shot.

I'd be much more likely to drop in on that one than the present CT. The action is way to slow in the present CT for my taste.

Good luck to you.

I'm not quite sure what people's problem is against the pony.  Normally, I don't have any problem killing them.  Hey Rude, I'll even post my stats  :)

I'm 4 and 3 vs. them in the 109F4 (I believe all those were gangbangs, but I only remember 2 of them.)

3-0 in the 109G10 (hey, it is a runstang killer  :D)

1-0 in the 190A-5
4-0 in the A-8
3-0 in the D-9.
0-2 in the P-51D (1 a vultch  :(, 1 a very fun gangbang  :))

All that said, I think the Pony is a really REALLY nice plane.  I think it is at least the equal, if not the better, of the 109G10 and the 190D9.  I flew it for a couple days and did pretty well in it, it flies very nicely.  Doesn't accelerate all that well though, which is why people have to keep it fast.  I think that a lot of Mustang pilots kinda get used to just running away in a straight line if they lose the initial advantage though, so you can kill them pretty easy in the G10 and D9.  Between two good pilots, I think the fight would be pretty even.

sharing good times, bad times, lots of history, and flying the plane that brought us together.
