Maybe it's a good way to ensure that the guys who want to join are mature individuals, who've thought it through and decided they are willing to give up a few perks in the process.

(Not saying whether I personally would or wouldn't, just that I think it might be likely to weed out some "undesirables". )

Exactly ... I was with the MAW and they wanted me to change my CPID too ... I said "no thank you I like my name just as it is" ... and they let it slide.

They should respect your longevity and grandfather you in with your current CPID if they really want you.

To me, 999000 is more than just any handle. It's a trademark, a legend, when appearing on the roster it tells me: avoid low B-17's :D
I would hate to see it go.

But if you really have to, just avoid anything like "tripl9" for reasons mentioned elsewhere in this thread ;)
