The Blue Max ...WWI
« on: January 26, 2010, 10:17:31 AM »
I wasn't thrilled about the upcoming WWI arena until by chance I saw the movie "The Blue Max". Great eye candy with good dogfight scenes.
The movie came out in 1966 with George Peppard as a young Luftwaffe Pilot that no one wants to fly with because his selfishness got his wingman killed. Later he thinks he kills an observer in the rear seat of an enemy aircraft and forces the pilot to land. Before landing the observer wakes up and prepares to fire on the young Luftwaffe Pilot and he's forced to shoot the plane down. Again he is scorned for his actions because shooting down a helpless enemy is dishonorable.

Question: Will the WWI arena have a higher standard of Gameplay than the MA or will it devolve into some of the lame behavior we see now. I'm hoping that chivilary is not dead and players respect each other and contribute to others having fun as well as themselves.  :aok

A family friend was a friend (and next door neighbor) of George Peppard at Dearborn High School.   About 3 weeks ago at a birthday party, he recollected George being a starting running back.  He jammed his thumb something fierce and went to the bench.   The head coach walked up and said, "you in pain?!!!"   George said "Nah" (being sarcastic).  The coach said good and yanked his thumb back into place.   George went in for the next play and the rest of the game.

I still have yet to see the whole flick at once.   I always catch bits and pieces of it.   I'll be getting it on DVD soon.

If you have Netflix, you can watch it on instant download.  Great flick.

And Chivalry?  Pulleeeze.  Aside from some very rare events early in the war, 99.99% of the Great Air War was a bloody, cruel, and heartless meat-grinder.  The Baron himself specialized in stalking the fight from above to identify and pick-off wounded, damaged, or inexperienced pilots trying to separate from the furball and head for home.  Those certainly comprised the majority of his kills.

Suck it up Princess.  Its going to be a blood-bath.  :devil

I'm guessing you have a problem with all that...if they get more than 4 planes in there, it will be fun anyway.

There will ALWAYS be lame behavior when scoring is involved.

Its not about fighting, its about how many easy kills can you get, consequently giving you a better"score".

If there are scores in WW1 arena, there will be score boiz!

At least we wont get sick from the Castor oil, and our goggles wont be covered with grease.  I already have my Silk scarf tucked into my flight suit.  I speak from, the scarf coming streaming in the wind is BS.  I was flying in an airshow in an SE-5 and my scarf came out.  Trying to fly, and keep from getting strangled by the 6 foot white silk scarf acting like a Noose in 65 kts winds is not fun.
