Negative Perk Cost
« on: January 28, 2010, 11:26:52 AM »
I was browsing these forums today, and there's all this usual talk of perking my favorite plane; the Spitfire MK XVI.

Sometimes it bothers me a little that I get called a n00b when flying my favorite plane. But being the person that I am, getting called names does not push me to do anything than continue in my path.

Its my core nature; I come from a defiant culture. Those retards who make allusions about my plane choice will not prevail!

So I thought, what big enough incentive would I have to get to switch to a crappy plane?

Here it is gentlemen. Negative perk costs!

If HTC will pay me perk points to fly a crappy plane, I'll do it.

This idea could have various implementations. My suggestion is a payment by minute system: If I'm flying a P40B I'd get 0.25 perks a minute of my air time, for example.

The idea will put a lot of n00bs into crappy planes for perk points.

It will satisfy HTC 'Vets' because they will have an easier time scoring kills, and will also satisfy the slaughtered n00b because he managed to get some perks for flying time. Everyone walks away happy!

What do you think?

It's already there. It's just not called that way.

Kill Spit 16 in a Spit 16 - get 1 perk point.

Kill a Spit 16 in a 109F - get 6 perk points
Do the same in a Hurricane I - get 8 perk points.

You see: HTC is already paying perks for flying "crappy" planes

You fly the Spit XVI for it's history, right?  Isn't that the same Spit Ben Affleck used to win the Battle of Britain?

And how can man die better, than facing fearful odds.
For the ashes of his fathers and the temples of his Gods."

I fly the spit because I like it. But yes, the 308 RAF flew most if not all the spit variants that I also like most. Ben Affleck was flying a 303 Polish Squadron spitfire, but it wasn't a 16. I believe it was a 9, but I may be incorrect.

There is a distinction between getting perks for flying time vs perks for kills.

You mean that if I fly a C.202 - and I get a kill, I get more perk points than if I fly a Tempest?

Hmmm... let me think about this...

No I mean if you fly a C.202 and not get a kill, you may indeed get more perks then if you fly a tempest.

-1.  The mighty snailman hit it on the head.  Besides, I'd rather be frustrated with waves of spit XVIs than see this implemented.

Picture: 133711 (or other zip code, or lazy older player) ups a P-40B with as much fuel as possible, climbs to 1k over the ocean and sets autopilot into the blue yonder on max cruise.  Come back 30 minutes later, turns around and heads back.  Weeee 15 perks for going to get groceries!  Three more times and I can up my Tempest of doom and show these guys how to run.   ;)

I would be tempted to classify this behavior in the retarded category. But hey, there's lots of that happening now anyway. Like hoarding, picking, ganging..

So basically I could up a D3A 16 times and land each time 3 minutes later and get free perks...

No, well that'd be nice because I'm always in need of bomber perks, but not the greatest idea...

Interesting concept, but na, think I'd pass.

The idea is to reward killing the other guy, not just cruising around staying alive.
