I still would like to see the first round losers applied to the open slots in the first round byes. Would give a round one matchup like BK and Batty less impact over the entire match. I think either is certainly capable of a top 8 showing depending on later pairings. You would get a better, more equally match round two, instead of weak pilots getting a free pass.

i just dont get it. folks get on this thing to duel fight kill people. why not team alll the ones with byes together and may the best man win

That's what I did last time and like I said it made it much more difficult on me to administer the tournament.  In the end it doesn't matter as each of those with a current bye would have to have one somewhere else along the way if I did it the other way.  They'd ultimately end up having to await the outcome of one of the brackets without a first round bye.

It could be worse, that top right quarter of the bracket looks brutal.
