Late night Candy Mountain silliness
« on: February 03, 2010, 01:08:16 AM »
Got a chance to fly a bit for the first time in a while.  True to form I logged on just as Raptor was launching his latest epic mission to hit strat with IL2s and I16s.  Typical Raptor Candy Mountain Silliness.

Off we go with 4-5 IL2s and maybe a dozen I-16s.  The formation looks halfway decent.

We know it's a oneway trip, but since no one is dying, and it's for fun, who cares?  Clearly a few folks as we lose some when they figure out that this isn't a serious mission at all.  But we stagger on towards our doom

Once we approach the target, the question becomes now what?  We're hoping for uppers so we can tangle with em in our I-16s.  Just as we see the dar start to build, we began to take flak from a train of all things.  What the heck.  I can't hit anything with a rocket, so in I go.  Damn if I don't actually hit the flak gun and a couple of cars.  How silly is that?

Raptor, as is his usual mission routine, loses most of a wing but keeps on flying.

Bandits are soon called behind and above us, so we turn towards them to engage.  A N1K and an F4U pass over the top of me as I wander under them at about 300 feet.  A 190 sees me and as he passes over the top, he starts to roll in.  I pull up and into him as it's about all I  can do.  I'm slowing and about 85 mph.  He's diving at about 390 when his wings light up and the bastage tries to HO me!

I don't shoot back and managed to get past him with only one hit on me.  I nose down for some E as he goes back up and over.  I pull back into him, hoping that because I didn't HO him, he'll possibly not HO this pass and maybe come down and use those long wings to turn with me in my stubby little I-16.  No such luck as he opens fire again!

Off comes the wing, and I'm back to the tower for a new plane, after about a half hour of laughter good fun.  Another epic Candy Mountain flight into cartoon futility  :D

What ya gonna do.  Some of these guys will only fly latewar rides and are afraid to fight in them.  They only fly with the advantage and even then can only HO! Then they make excuses for it!  :huh  :headscratch: :neener:

Oh ya,
I sometimes up  a jugg, D40 or d11 and just fly around lookin for trains. good practice and lots of fun,
kinda historical i guess. B and D ponys + trains are fun too.

dont know if it helps the score or not but it sure is fun

You shouldn't go nose up at any plane and expect him to hold guns, especially a Ta152.  :lol  Try timing it better and going off to the side next time, you know, that ACM thing you mentioned.   :aok

So you are saying I should expect a HO shot, even on the second pass when the pilot I ran into knows I didn't shoot on the first pass?  I usually figure that the ACM guys, once they see the other guy hasn't HO'd them, will take that as a sign the guy who didn't HO is looking for a bit more of a fight?

I figure with the disparity in performance between my I-16 and the other guys Ta152, he could have controlled the fight without HOing me anyway.  Turning into him seemed to me to be the best move to try and get him slowed down a bit and potentially into a turning fight.  Since I know I'm not really dying I tend to risk the nose on pass and don't shoot hoping to run into those guys who like to turn fight ;)

Oh well, lesson learned.  Guess I better lower my expectations :)
