While it may be easier to aim, with paired cannons, you don't have to worry about the plane staggering on after surviving a spud. I mean, how are you going to land a plane without wings?

How is one going to land without a pilot, or an engine, or even its stabalizers? About the only thing thats going to limp away after a 37mm hit is an F6F, Il-2, or a P-47. Even the, its going to be a rare occurence.

I like upping an il2 for base defense and HOing with the 37mm ripping wings off with one shot. I shot a f4 at 1k out and giggled like a little school girl when it went poof.  :x

you're only allowed to giggle like that when you're wearing your pink panties, and pink hi heels............ :noid

Never had much luck as far as air to ground goes, but love the big guns in the air. Even killed a set of lancs with the 25H's cannon at 2k. He was pissed that I never entered gun range  :P.
Oh you have to try sneaking out at tree level past the VH spawn and come in behind wirbles low in an IL-2 w/ big guns...Smokes 'EM!

No, I have the approach, firing run, and exit down, but all I manage to do is track them, and every once in a blue moon, I turret them. I've pretty much given up flying the Il-2. I think the problem is my accuracy while at treetop height, while having a brief aiming oportunity so I don't nose into the ground.

Convergence 600? I get fairly regular kills. Of course it get killed when they figure it out, and start watching the tree tops instead of the clouds.  :x

Yeah, well 625 for me, but pretty much. And after a few runs at tree-top level, I get to 2-3k and dive in on them.

As I said, I have the approach, run, and exit down cold, but I can't hit anything.

No fighter limps away from a 37mm hit..   :t

IL-2 is the only single engine plane that can withstand a single 37mm hit except for a hit to the tail.

I've seen F6F's and 47's survive a 37mm hit. Not often, but it can happen.
