Sleep aids.
« on: February 09, 2010, 02:25:32 PM »
Since there was a thread on stop smoking aids, figured I would give sleep aids its fifteen minutes.

For the majority of my adult life, ive had sleep issues. Ive been on just everything under the sun, lunesta ambien and various others. Seems ambien works the best for me.

Hopefully everyone who has to take the stuff has insurance. Its insanely expensive. Ive had to pay out of pocket for it once about a year ago, and it was round about $120. I can only imagine the price has gone up since then.

Its also worth mentioning that in my case, I could work my arse off all day long. Be tired as can be, and still not be able to sleep at bedtime.

Overactive brain? Have you tried any of the newer "natural" sleep aids that use a combo of ingredients known to induce drowsiness?

me amd mrs zetanine sleep to ambient music.  we click on the "Spa" channel on the bedroom tv (direct tv)..darken the picture.... and keep the volume so it's very quiet.  it has amazing results.....at the very least.....you should try this.

it dramatically slows brainwaves

Sex. Works every time, but may induce a craving for a sandwitch.

Medical Marijuana. I'm serious, friend of mine had sleep issues ( he suffers from several diseases ) and the meds he was on would keep him up. Now he vaporizes a small amount and passes out like a baby. Doctor said it was his best option though still illegal here in PA.....

I normally sleep fine, living a low stress life and getting plenty of exercise seems to work the best.

But a few years ago I had a serious bout with sleep apnea. I'm not normally one to take drugs to cure my problems, but I have got to say a family member introduced me to MyoCalm, and it worked amazingly. I highly recommend it to people who suffer from occasional sleep apnea. But it seems that if you are suffering from apnea fairly regularly then you should try to find the route cause of the problem and not mask it with drugs.

Make sure it's an Indica strain, not a Sativa.  :noid

Indica = sleepies.
Sativa = munchies & paranoia.

I'm serious, friend of mine...

A "friend of your's" huh? Sure.....  :lol

Seriously though, its sad in our current society that Ritalin and other heavy duty drugs get handed out like cough drops while a little old harmless herb has such a stigma. Hopefully as our country matures we will see the war on drugs redirected towards drugs that are actually causing harm to people and society.

I havent tried any natural remedies, and I find ambient music just distracts me. I find the thing that works well for me, is after taking the ambien to just turn on a crappy movie. Ive been using national treasure 2 lately, tivo recorded it for some reason.

Thats odd indy. Everytime I eat a sammich, I start wanting sex. :)

Just read Hog's post...thought I would "investigate" MyoCalm because I do suffer from sleep apnea...but I'm not going to sleep with a friggin machine attached to me.

Some of the "rare side effects"...   :lol

Inducing of a Relaxed Easy State  <----wonder how relaxed
Decreased Muscle Tone <----must be from the relaxed easy state

Chronic Trouble Sleeping  <---what?

I might have to buy some just and try it out...thanks for pointing it out Hog.

Another thing that REALLY helps for those nights you just can't stop thinking about stuff. Keep a pad of paper and pen beside the bed, and when you can't stop thinking about something, just write it down.

Sometimes I have my best ideas as I'm falling asleep, and I instantly get that rush feeling of 'oh shoot I'm going to forget this', and that feeling alone wakes me back up so to speak. It may be a single idea, something you want to mention to someone, a list of stuff to do, or even a sketch. If you can just get these out of your head and somewhere they won't disappear, it really does help.

Not sure what you mean about having something attached to you? The MyoCalm I was talking about comes in a pill form, which you take based on your body weight.

Side effects, well yes those first few they list are the very reason you are taking the pill!

I think it works differently than most sleeping pills you will find, rather than giving you a real drowsy feeling or 'heady' high for the lack of a better term, the MyoCalm gives your entire body a general relaxed and at ease feeling. When I really can't sleep I lay in bed and almost feel twitchy or if as my skin is crawling in places, and MyoCalm completely takes care of that, while still not making me feel 'weird' in the head. I feel like you could still operate a vehicle or even make it out of a burning house with MyoCalm, which I CAN'T say for some other prescription sleep meds I've taken.
