A little history found
« on: February 15, 2010, 05:53:20 PM »
The following link shows pictures from WWII.  The opening picture is of my dads plane, Sweet Patootie.  Also in the pictures there are B-26s, A-20s and I believe a rare look at a clipped wing Corsair which I believe the British Navy flew. http://www.footnote.com/image/161314178/

Many years ago an older friend of my father came by the house one time with a shoebox full of pictures taken from his days in a B26 squadron flying out of France.
There were hundreds of pictures, mostly smaller 4x4s but there were somne larger pictures in there.  It seemed that every example of nose art in the squadron was represented and there were action shots too...flak bursts and planes with smoking engines.  Also lots of pictures of ground crews working on the planes, and just standing around too :)   There were great pictures of the airplane crews posing next to their planes.  Ed Shue was the mans name and he had no surviving children.  He and his wife moved out fo state and have long since passed.  I often wonder what ever became of that box of pictures......the link reminded me of him right away.

Thanks for sharing the link <S>

Wow too many to look through now. I bet those germans wet themselves when they saw those contrails in the sky.  :uhoh
                                Great pics!  :salute

Buzz Bomb in flight, flaming a 109 with a p47, rescue of a b17 crew downed in the sea, a 163 must have looked wierd to those that only knew conventional aircraft.

Nice! BTW that is not a clipped wing Corsair it is a Vultee Vengeance.

I knew it when I saw it but the photo is also labeled with the right
plane's name.

And talk about a ugly plane.  Never heard anyone saying they wanted one of them in AH.

Actually, from what I've been reading she was a pretty dependable and serviceable bomber. She was outclassed by 1944, sure, but the British used her to great effect in Burma.
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.
