That same thing happened to my father. They told him it was a from of tunnelvision. When you look through a small area you can refocus on other things and lose the crosshairs. At least that is what his dr. said ten years ago !

Some sort astigmatism (every eyeball has it) that might have progressed?

I don't think so. When I went in for my last FAA physical, I spoke to an Air Force Flight Surgeon who diagnosed my with an astigmatism. He mentioned that it only really affects letters and reading, and that it wouldn't be a factor in flight, even military combat operations (As I mentioned my interests) so i would think crosshairs, albeit on a scope and not a HUD, would fall into the uneffected category. On the other hand, I have 20/15 vision, so he may have been factoring that in to things.

Every eyeball has it, some just aren't affected is all.

Definitely sounds like astigmatism to me as well. There is another possible issue. Do you have high cholesterol? Very high cholesterol levels can effect the eye in some nasty ways. Definitely get a thorough exam by an opthamologist. Make sure they give the inside of the eye a good looking over for problems with the retina and you might also have some separation there.
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

Ive got a dr appointment next week, thanks for all the replies. I have slightly elevated cholesterol level, nothing too serious. In fact, let me see what I take for that.

Norvasc 5 mg? That might be it, I take that and Zocor 10 mg. Im pretty sure one is for blood pressure and the other is cholesterol, I forget which is which though.

Looking in my medicine box, I see I take something called Loxapine. Without looking it up, can anyone tell me what its for? Bottle doesnt say. Just says Loxapine 50 mg, take one capsule per day blah blah.

 LOl ok forgotten!

KJ,good to hear your going to the doc for this! I suspect a clouding of the lens,or commonly know as cataracts.

I had a similar phenomena happen several years ago,the opt. told me I had a thickening of the lens and some cloudiness but he wouldn't call it a cataract just yet.Less than 1 year later I was legally blind, lost my ability to drive, the whole bit.

Do to my relatively young age I got surgery fairly quickly and had lens implanted so I could see again.
