Purpose. I like purpose. It gives things meaning. And when a purpose can be shared among men it creates something even more special, it creates a common purpose. Let's face it, the weakness of the MA is that while there is purpose in the form of getting kills, and engaging in fun fights, it's lacking in the area of common purpose, the kind that drives people to organize their energies and efforts in pursuit of a common goal. The Ma had the 'war' to serve this purpose, but let's face it, no one cares about the war, who's winning the war, or doing the things required to win the war. So herding the cats is an elusive endeavor at best in the MA and then along comes this streak and I see common purpose. For those on the opposing side the common purpose is to end it, and for those that fly with Mr. Kazaa the purpose is trying to keep it going by watching his back, and keeping him safe.
I'm sure that during Richard Bong's race to being the top scoring ace in the war, the Japanese were pretty pissed about being those rung up and painted on the side of Mr. Bong's plane. You can bet that Japanese intelligence was doing everything they could to locate Mr. Bong's whereabouts and stack the skies in an attempt to shoot him down and take the wind out of the sails of Americans everywhere. In fact this is one of the reasons that Bong, like Pokryshkin, and others were removed from the front lines. They had reached the point where their legend was worth more than their kills.
Can you imagine knights on the radio calling out Mr. Kazaa's location and trying to vector planes to him and his escape routes back to base? Can you envision he and is teammates orchestrating cover? Can you imagine the 200 chatter?
I say long live the streaks and those who seek them, but beware that the game is afoot.
