WWI flying with trackIR? (film request too)
« on: March 11, 2010, 10:47:28 AM »
Anyone reading the boards today have trackir and tried it with the new WWI aircraft?

How is it? Any chance for a film of some aircombat?  Actually I (bet others would too)
would enjoy seeing any kind of guncam film from anyone flying in the WWI arena

TIA!  <S>

It's 100% awesome.

Just be sure to be able to turn it off when you settle in for a kill.   Whereas you could trust the gunsight in a P47, you can't here.  Fixed gunsight vs reflector and all that jazz :)

But for tracking an opponent, and getting a view of the surroundings, it rules.

I fly with TrackIr, and I keep it on even when shooting. Instead of disabling it I try to get very close before shooting.

I keep TrackIR on all the time during flight too. Very amazing to fly with it! So fun never having to look away from the screen for anything.

Don't turn it off. Set all axis to deadband in the middle. Then
take the pitch axis and speed it up slightly. Set a button to center
the view for when you first get to the tower. You won't need tracers
in any arena with a deadband added into the profile if you
have a good sight picture.

Its awesome!

I find it much more useful/needed in WWI than I have found it in WWII.

It sure works with the 6-view better.

Yesterday I had to turn it off to actually hit anything.  Today I've been turning it off when I get the con on my nose.  Had a button on my hat switch programmed to forward view but couldn't quite get it yet.  Still need to fiddle with some of the settings but it's extremely helpful for the mess that is SA during those furballs.

It's great for looking around wings and such to keep sight of a baddie.  I haven't had any problems at all using it with the gunnery, didn't notice any difference whatsoever there.  But then I don't use the gunsight for shooting in ww2 either, so....

I just lean over and site down the barrel of the gun like I was shooting a rifle.

Really? From what I could tell the sights weren't properly calibrated.

I keep mine on with no deadband in the middle.... the D7 has front & rear sights and I just walk in the rounds with the Dr 1.

It seemed to work for me.  At least within my overall gunnery skills.   I just made sure the back site was aligned with the front site on the barrel.  Good enough if you get nice and close.  :D

Lol.  Well, I sprayed around enough bullets in enough directions, just by law of averages I had to eventually hit someone.

Actually, with the DRI I remember now I was pretty much just using the "Force".  Maybe it was longer shots I was barrrel siteing.  I dunno.  Its was all such a blur!
