High School Science
« on: March 15, 2010, 02:01:58 PM »
In one of the local flyers in my area, I read this and had to post it.

These are actual answers given on High School Science tests.

1) Many dead animals of the past changed to fossils while others preferred to be oil.
2) Men are mammals and women are femammals.
3) Proteins are composed of a mean old acid.
4) The largest mammals are to be found in the sea because there is nowhere else to put them.
5) Involuntary muscles are not as willing as voluntary ones.
6) Methane, a greenhouse gas, comes from the burning of trees and cows.
7) The spinal column is a long bunch of bones.  The head sits on the top and you sit on the bottom.
8) Mushrooms always grow in damp places and so they look like umbrellas.
9) Some people say we condescended from the apes.

Just to think, this crop of students will be running the country in 20 to 30 years. :noid

My wife is a area manager for the 2010 Census and there are twenty eight questions on the test you have to take. One of the biggest places that the census recruits is at the colleges. On one particular testing out of 30 students:

2- scored a 26 out of 28

the rest all scored 16 or under.

And they are basic questions on this test.

Hey Oakranger...I've been sitting here trying to figure out how any DNA evidence has been found to support how humans condescended from apes...  :D  I have seen the research on the theory that early humans may have descended from apes...but nothing to support condescension.

condescend:
1. to act graciously towards another or others regarded as being on a lower level; behave patronizingly
2. to do something that one regards as below one's dignity

descend:
1 : to pass from a higher place or level to a lower one <descended from the platform>
2 : to pass in discussion from what is logically prior or more comprehensive
3 a : to originate or come from an ancestral stock or source : derive <descends from an old merchant family> b : to pass by inheritance <a desk that has descended in the family> c : to pass by transmission <songs descended from old ballads>
4 : to incline, lead, or extend downward <the road descends to the river>
5 a : to swoop or pounce down (as in a sudden attack) b : to appear suddenly and often disconcertingly as if from above <reporters descended on the candidate>
6 : to proceed in a sequence or gradation from higher to lower or from more remote to nearer or more recent
7 a : to lower oneself in status or dignity : stoop b : to worsen and sink in condition or estimation

Please tell me you didn't teach the class that the kid who wrote that answer was in...
