Johnny Cash The Man Comes Around
« on: March 29, 2010, 11:36:46 AM »
Every time I listen to the whole album instead of just the handful I rated up on my playlist, I find that I like the album more and more.

The other two "new" Johnny Cash albums American Recordings and American VI: Ain't No Grave didn't stand out for me on my first listening, which didn't surprise me very much.  But The Man Comes Around...  If you've ever liked anything that Johnny Cash ever did, you need to get this album.  Lots of covers, but he does it right I think.

Maybe I'm getting old and I've lost too many friends and family members before their time, but Cash is one of those artists that resonates with me.  Anyone who groks the definition of the word "resonates" ought to understand that.

Yep he has always been one of those same type of artists for me as well. I guess I need to give it a listen as well. Thanks for the heads up.

Anyone know the version of the song "Sam Hall" that I could reasonably be expected to know by heart, verbatim?

Anytime I listen to my MP3 player Johnny Cash is usually the first person I listen too, Hurt is one of my favorite songs by him.

Generally I do not like covers too much, but Johnny Cash often makes the original run away in shame ("Hurt", "One", "I won't back down"...++)

that would be because he was true talent, unlike most others out there today.  :aok

There are not many singers that can express emotion as genuinely, honestly or clearly with their voice as Johnny could.

When he sings about what is going on, you believe it.  It goes beyond knowing he was happy, sad, etc or being able to relate to it.

You can actually feel his sorrow, or his joy  in a strange but comforting empathetic way.

that would be more than likely due to the fact he worked his bellybutton off to get noticed.

does anyone realize that he started with himself, and 2 friends, both mechanics? one playing an electric guitar, and the other on an upright bass.

 true talent..........

get rythem is playing right now........

also, if i'm not mistaken, he did rock and gospel both before he got into country.
