HELP! Need to program new CH USB controllers.
« on: April 09, 2010, 09:33:45 AM »
I've just started on the process but it seems the learning curve and frustration level are going to be excessive and require many hours.

If it's possible, the CH Control Manager software seems even more clunky and difficult then the old Speedkeys software. The key mapping in AH is also confusing.

I'm not a computer geek, I'm also not an idiot.

Any advice on how to simplify this process? Please be as detailed as possible.

Here's one problem I've encountered. I can not get the Pro throttle to work all throttles at one time on the Lancs.

Any advice you can provide or files you can send me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I fly with the whole CH suite: Fighterstick/Pro Throttle/Pro Pedals (pedals were a door prize at the 2000 WarBirds Con :)).  If you hit shift-e (I think that's the default) while in Aces High, that selects all engines, and then the throttle runs them all.  That's all I've ever had to do.  :headscratch:

PM me your email address, and when I get home (at about 19:30 EDT) I'll send you my key mapping file.

Hi Golfr,

If you need some guidance concerning the CM software go here: www.ch-hangar.com
Best place to go to get a handle on using this software.

I don't use CM in AH. I found that I can map everything I need to within AH. With a full CH setup, and trackir I have more than enough buttons, and I had plenty of buttons before the trackir.

I find CM more useful for msfs where you need too have several different profiles for each button, or assigning macro's to a button. Stuff like that.

Like Pudgie said the ch hanger is a good place to get help and info on CH gear.

Mapping "engine 1" to the throttle should give you all engines controlled by the throttle. Goto map controllers, select the CH throttle in the top drop down box, then click on the "z axis" and then "modify" When that window open, select analog inputs the engine 1. Click OK on that window and then ok on the Map controllers window. and it should set it.

I also have all CH stuff. I do not use the CH software either. To use the AH setup you make all of your input setting like the throttle. Select the stick from the drop down either click on the button label in the window, OR operate the switch on the stick to highlight it then click "modify". In the modify window find and select which action you want to be associated with that button, click ok in that modify window, and click ok in the mapping window to save it.

You have to do each one so its a pain in the butt, but once its done I close out the game, and then make a copy of the settings folder so I don't have to do it all again should I have to re-install the game. Learned that one the hard way  :cry

golfr!  You could have gotten a joystick ten times better for one-tenth the price if you build it yourself!  HAHA Just kidding.

I don't have any experience with the CH software, but when it comes to throttles, just assign it to engine 1 and leave the other three engines unassigned.  The game will interpret that as meaning you only have one throttle axis, and will 'lock' it onto all of the engines (unless you manually select them while in the plane... you know the whole Shift+E+1, etc bit... it's confusing to me to so i almost never bother.

I hope this helps!

for you guys who have the "Fighter stick" and have a hard time reaching the top hat view, there is a very easy fix to turn the castle switch into an 8way hat.
I have been using it for about a month now and it is sweet.

LOL Bruv, I think only fighter lessons from you would help me  :aok

I actually like bombers. If I could get more people to cooperate with my theory that bombers win wars and fighters are there to protect bombers, we'd take a lot more bases with ease. Two sets of Lancs can knock a town down in just a few minutes. Just need some fighter support and troops in position (maybe a couple of tanks) and the base is yours. It's simple and it works. It requires a little cooperation and people willing to follow orders. Knights fail miserably at both.

Back to the CH programming, it seems there's a consensus that it's better to do it in AH key mapping. I used to hook my old CH gameport stuff to my very old rig running Win 98 and use Speedkeys, clunky interface but I got it to work. Not an option anymore. On a new learning curve. Hope to be back relatively soon.

Actually, if you now how program your stick using Control Manager, it's far better than just using the AH keymapper as you can do far more stuff in Control Manager like turning the mini-stick on the Pro Throttle as a 8 way hatswitch or an extra throttle.  The limits are almost endless if you use scripting.

Good thing I work from home and not in a tall building.

This is ridiculous. I get the axes working OK, can fly around. But then I go back into CM and start programming some buttons, go back to AH, and the throttle axis no longer works.

Already tried uninstalling and reinstalling everything. No joy.

Between CH and their lousy software, AH and their lousy software, and Winblows 7, I think I'm screwed.

CH Control Manager is a rather robust and easy to use programming software once you read the instructions on how to program with it.  It's no harder to program a CH stick in CM than it was with SpeedKeys.

I had read the instructions and the "Dummies" tutorial.

Made some progress today. Got all axes working along with the buttons I had programmed. Need to adjust the sensitivities and dead zones for the stick and especially the rudder and brakes.

The learning curve is still steep but I am making slow progress.
