I learned to get the friend -lock enable and use it a bit ..
Should I be firing on the target when both the gun sight & the lead cross hairs converge together?

Or use just use the lead cross hair ?

The lead crosshairs are learning tools. Best use of them is to make as many different approaches on your targets (be it helpful players in TA or the circling target drones in offline mode) as possible. The key is to memorize where your gun sight is pointing at at the moment the green crosshairs are on target, because it's your gunsight that you will use in the main arenas.
You will notice the relative positions differ a lot depending on angle of approach, own speed, target speed, cannons used and so on. The key is practice, practice, practice. Get a feel for a successful gun solution. This does not come overnight.
I also recommend to stick to a single plane type at first, or at least to planes using the same type of guns. This will help you during the learning process.
And get close before firing. 400 isn't close.  ;)

Actually, the green crosshairs will only be on the target if you are on its 12/6 line.  Otherwise, the crosshairs will be in front of the target.  You need to get your gunsight lined up with the crosshairs for your bullets to hit the target if you shot at that exact moment

As others have said, don't fixate on the crosshairs; get a picture in your mind of the target, its relation to you, where it is in your view at the time your gunsight hits the crosshairs.

You are absolutely right and I don't know why, but I seem to had an absolute blackout while I wrote my earlier post, because it's much more confusing than necessary.

Of course you want to have the gunsight on the green crosshairs when shooting, all the time. And you have to memorize that gunsight position relative to the target plane.
The way I wrote it earlier reads as if the player would deliberately "place" the green crosshairs somwhere, which he does not.

I shouldn't post while flying AH. Sorry for any confusion I might have caused.

Single biggest cause of poor gunnery with new players, they think they can shoot at 800 yards and hit.
Not realizing that they are shooting at targets half a mile away.

Get close, then get closer.

Use the Lead Computing Gunsight in the TA to get a feel for your planes guns.

Practice, practice, and more practice.

And yes, 5 min with a trainer can be more valuable than 5 hours on your own.
As we can spot issues you might never figure out.

Thanks for all the help on hitting the target !!!

As you can see , I'm still flying & dieing after my  two weeks trail offer...

I practice off-line for days , finally started to use a firing solution ..
At first only way I could get hits was at 200 yards , but soon it was 300 and then even 400 .....

Iv been taking a liking to the P-39Q , really enjoy its flight characteristics and it front nose gear as it forgives my bad landings ....

The plan over the next week ?

install mike
install joystick
learn the radio
practice basic fighting maneuvers

I really enjoy flying & dieing in the blue arena , good sport there !!!!

Lots more questions coming of course....
