And the road to hell is paved with good intentions, which just means you can't judge a book by its cover, or lead a horse to water, but ....

wait, you mean we weren't speaking in pointless old euphamisms?

Your vague generalization is not accurate. Definitely there is a path of least resistance, and some choose to follow it. No resistance = no challenge, and when something stops being challenging it's no longer fun. The ones you fear will not stick around long and will move on to other games.

For all the griping and whining in this game, you folks sure have short memories. Either that or you've been here too briefly to truly know what the heck you're griping about.
I think Ive played 3 to 4 years now.....first 2-3 years i didnt really learn a thing about ACM, thats about the time i started getting bored with the game because all i was doing was BnZin in a Typh. Then I started fighting and untill just recently Ive never got bored.

Do you really think Im talking about a minority of players when Im talking about this Path of least resistence?

Personally I find the game almost exactly the same fun as it used to be. I think most people want to find problems with the game to account for their own declining interest. The game is still what it always was: A tool to create your own fun with. Fun was never handed to us on a plate here, we always had to go out and make some fun. Somewhere along the lines the community forgot that we are all responsible for making our own fun in AH. Do I need to point out how much we would all miss it if the game was closed down?
And I don't know much, but I do know this. With a golden heart comes a rebel fist.

Old time players? Maybe I am, AW player from the GEnie days. :old:

I hate the CAP system. :furious

Fightertown in the MA never worked in AW, I hate maps with them here. :(

Large missions are fun, Sqdn nights are fun. Flying with friends is Fun. :aok

And yes I like playing "Win the war".... I long ago got over furballing. :airplane:

But I think HTC needs to make the war better....

How would they do that? Like mechanic said, all the tools are there, it's up to the PLAYERS to make the war. Unfortunately todays players aren't playing the war for fun, they are playing to win.

Is there any other way to play war?.... HTC is always trying make it a fair fight, and that just gets in the way of a good war. If your side sucks at working together as a team...... then you need to be driven off the map in defeat.

But how do you make that work in AH and make it fun? It works in WW2OL because you go in to it knowing your playing war with a limited number of planes & tanks. The thing I never liked about AW, WB, & AH.... You can plan missions, bomb targets, do all the right things to win... but the other side always has a unlimited supply of planes and tanks. Makes a great furballing game, but sucks for a game of war. And when I said HTC needs to make a better war.... unlimited supply would be at the top of the list to fix.

I suppose I count as an old time player as far as AH goes, although I haven't actually played AH (or any other flightsim) in quite a few years.  I consider AH about the same as any of the other online flightsims--it has its plusses, and its drawbacks.  I'd say it's my second favorite of the genre, and my favorite of the current offerings--though given the competition, that's not necessarily saying much.

I've never cared for the 'war' or most of what comes with it; I just want to fight.

The community has changed more than the game has from this old-timers point of view, what changed to the game structure have occurred I think were for the better.

Agreed.  The crowd is younger and less interested in the history.

Still beats any other air combat game I've seen.

After 10 years away from AW, and a brief trial of AH when it first came out, I feel the same way.

It's still nice to see a lot of the familiar history buffs, as well as newer names I'm getting to know, but it feels different now that the FPS video game generation got interested in it.  For instance, if they could do it, some guys would make their plane "bunny hop" as you fired at them.   :lol

The game play hasn't change much from when I first started playing. I remember being one of only 7 Knits logged on one night late, flying against two defending Bish while we rolled up bases. I could barely keep a plane in the air, but I was still part of the Knit Horde. All 7 of us.  :joystick:

The game itself has improved in remarkable ways with improved rides and terrains, but I do miss the smaller community we had back then.
Easy in-game again.

Miss the single MA.

Love the way the graphics have improved.
Wish the older planes & GVs would get updated sometime. (Weird playing a game where different planes cover such a spectrum modeling-wise)
Not addicted like I used to be, but still try to jump on for a lil bit most nights.

I get the same good feeling today playing Aces High as I did my first day online. I've never had a lot of time to play each tour so I've never hit burnout. I set myself to perform a needed task in game and do it the best I can. Arena, Country and ENY have no effect. The game is so diverse that I can always find something useful to do and have fun doing it.

As long as I can keep up with the hardware upgrades I'll be here for a long time to come. Many of us don't have the latest and greatest computer setup and/or internet connection. A pretty game only goes so far. It has to remain playable. Space Invaders may not win any graphics awards but I can still play it anytime, anywhere and it's fun every time. Yup, the growing pains suck but I know it's a process. I'll do my best to keep up.

I hated to see the addition of WW1 stuff but it's not my call and will soldier on as always.

Game play is what YOU make it.
