Slient Hunter 5?
« on: June 08, 2010, 03:02:35 PM »
Is this game worth $25? I hear it's buggy I've been thinking about buying it.

EDIT: I've been thinking about RoF too. Opinons anyone?

both are excelent games, i would suggest buying them both.

SH5 - time consuming but tactically brilliant fun.

RoF - no other WWI sim to rival it currently.
And I don't know much, but I do know this. With a golden heart comes a rebel fist.

I suggest you look at sub sim hq before buying SH5. I have SH4 and love it. Most I know are not happy with SH5, and I understand it requires some software items you may not like.

Is Ubisoft still insisting that you must remain connected to their server to use your software?

I haven't been able to play recently as my video card appears to have blown up but the honest truth is that the version I played was not as good as SH3.  It may be a little prettier and have some neat functionality (which quickly becomes tiresome...like walking around the inside of the sub), the fact that you must be connected to the net and the weird bugs it seems to have make SH3 a better buy right now, if you like the Atlantic Theater [SH4 if you prefer the Pacific].

Mods will eventually make SH5 better given the great graphics...but they are tricky to get installed for some reason for me.  Neer managed to get it right before the vid card in that machine gave out.

A couple of weeks ago I picked up SH3 from Direct2drive for $9.95. Great game, in fact it has cut into my flying time on AH. I'd recommend SH3 over 4 and 5.

That's the story. It's a really sore subject for a lot of hard core sub sim fans.

Anyone playing SH3 must check out the Grey Wolves super mod... Just saying.

I'm on SH4 right now a lot, but it's just kinda boring. Photo-recon missions and agent inserts, but I have yet to encounter a legitimate fleet of warships (Though I routinely ambush destroyers and transports).

I got enough action on my first mission of my first career to get me sunk. That first mission was a photo recon mission.

I suggest you go to the sub sim forums, join the forums, do some reading, and download some of the mods, like TMO, RSRD, and RFB. I can tell you that just adding TMO made SH4 incredible. I wish I had time to play more.

Same deal I bought. Great value. Just haven't gotten around to picking up SH4 so I can have the pacific theaters. It's the slowest pace game to get me addicted in a very, very long time.

lol how many of you guys do manual targeting?

Im back on SH3 with GWX after a few months in the pacific with SH4.  Not sure if I will do SH5.  At first I thought the virtual ship would appeal to me but I have heard too many complaints about the game and the lack of patching.

I am opposite of most opinion on SH5. I thought it was infinitely better than SH4 even with trigger maru. Obviously die hard fans will still prefer SH3 with the great mods but for a vanilla release SH5 was very fun to play. The DRM did not cause any trouble, I was lucky there. I'm speaking in the past tense because I have not played it for months now. One of those games that I play for 3 hours straight then don't get a chance to play again for ages. Same as RoF. Still, if you have a little spare cash either one of them is well worth owning in my view.

Still playing SH3 with GWX 3.0.

Currently on Patrol 15. Type IXB, October 1941. I'm having problems with CTDs against HUGE convoys at night (I think its the Searchlights causing them). I need a better rig.  :old:
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!
