Do you want a modem? or a router?
The 2wire modem they usually give you is plenty capable as a modem, albeit a bit lacking as a router. However, you can install your own router to it and set up DMZ from your modem to the router and then do whatever functions you want through it. Also depending on your area and telco, they might not allow you to use any other kind of modem.
