Cop hits a women, he had the right?
« on: June 18, 2010, 11:58:09 AM »
I am fairly sure this one isnt considered against rules so though I would post it and see what others think.

A 19-year-old teenage girl was punched in the face by a Seattle police officer Tuesday afternoon after a jaywalking incident that ended in a video-taped altercation recorded by an onlooker, and was released earlier today.

The Seattle Police Department's website reported that an unnamed police officer spotted a male jaywalking, and after approaching the teen, the officer noticed four women jaywalk as well.

"The officer instructed the females to step over to his vehicle," said officials. "They were verbally antagonistic."

One of the women walked away from the officer, who escorted the teen back to his squad car.

Officials said that "the female subject began to tense up her arm and pull away from the officer while yelling at him," and after a brief argument, another woman from the group interrupted.

Police said, "The second female subject placed her hands on the officer's arm, causing the officer to believe she was attempting to physically affect the first subject's escape."

The second woman struggled with the officer, pushing him at one point, prompting the officer to punch her in the face.

A witness can be heard on the videotape asking the officer "Are you serious?" as the officer cautioned the woman, "Do not struggle," as he attempted to handcuff her.

The 19-year-old assaulted woman was treated by medical personnel after police back-up arrived at the scene.

Deputy Chief Nick Metz commented on the incident to the press: "You obviously have to take into context everything that occurred from the point that the officer did make contact with the individuals until the situation ended."

Seattle Sgt. Sean Whitcomb added, "There will be a thorough investigation into this incident."

<edit> Just noticed what someone had posted, pause at 11 seconds in, you will see why the officer had to do what he was doing.  She grabbed the cop, pulled/pushed him off of her cousin.

Personally after watching this video twice, I believe the officer was being touched and pushed by the assailants.  The lady he hit was interfering with the arrest and did put her hands on the officer.  Personally if I was a cop and someone grabbed me, I wouldn't know if they had a weapon or not.  In other words I would do what I had to do to protect myself and control the situation.

There is a small amount of language, most is censored.

What do you others feel about it?

I saw nothing wrong with it.  That girl deserved what she got.

Cops can get a little cocky some times but he did what was needed and didn't go too far outside the lines.

There is a big difference between "placing your hand on an arm" and what she did.

She, for all intensive purposes, picked a fight with him.  He was actually patient with the two relentless girls, before enough was finally enough.

I agree, and if you listen around 0-15 seconds, both of the girls are just cussing the officer out.

Sure, and I guess I shouldn't imply anything about her occupation as I did in prior post.

After all, Tahoe or not Tahoe, that was the question.

This reminds me of a little joke.

Two women, if we wish to call them that, approach a bank teller. The first presents the teller with a large sack of cash. The teller surprisedly looks up and queries, "young lady, did you hoard all that money yourself?"

The girl gestures to her accomplice and says, "no, my sister hoard (w-ho'ed) half of it."

Rosenthal appeared Tuesday in King County Juvenile Court, where supporters said that she lives at the Virginia Miller House, a residential facility with behavior-modification programs for teen girls, but was in contact with her family. It's unclear why the girl is not living with her family.

King County Superior Court pro-tem Judge Ann Danieli found that Seattle police had probable cause to arrest Rosenthal for investigation of third-degree assault and obstruction. However, the judge agreed with the girl's defense attorney that she should be released ....

Rosenthal was charged in November with second-degree robbery. According to prosecutors, she punched a 15-year-old boy in the face while she and a group of youths were on their way to a rave in South Seattle last Aug. 28. The boy told police that his cellphone and $20 were stolen in the incident. A 14-year-old boy told police that he was punched in the head and his hat was stolen.

Authorities say the case was dismissed when the boys refused to testify.

In April 2008, Rosenthal was charged with third-degree theft after she allegedly stole a minivan in Tukwila, prosecutors said. Kent police said she used a screwdriver to break the ignition and start the vehicle.

The charge was later amended to theft of a motor vehicle. Rosenthal was given a deferred disposition — charges would be dropped if she stayed out of trouble — because it was a first-time offense, said Ian Goodhew, deputy chief of staff for Prosecuting Attorney Dan Satterberg.

Her past record shows that she is very familiar with law enforcement.

This reminds me of a recent local story.  A guy was crossing Mass. St, our main downtown steet and was struck by a car.  The man was cited for jaywalking.
