Cop hits a women, he had the right?

The girls need to be charged with at the very least interfering with law enforcement action.  Attempting to aid escape of a detained individual might be appropriate for the one who got popped in the face, and if I was the officer I'd also retain an attorney to sue her for assault.  If the department doesn't back him up, sue the city too.  Cops have a hard enough time without their bosses taking the side of people who assault them.

the officer did what he had to do nothing more nothing less. some of you think he shouldda done more then you guys need some chill pill.  cops are not there to punish people, that's the job of the courts.  there was no need to use more force than needed, kudos to the officer for being a professional.

I am just really hoping when the judge sees this that he and or she realizes he had to do that for a reason, its not like he just did it for fun.  If this officer gets fired I think it would be totally wrong.

In a situation like this, it's hard to have a perfect response.  But the cop was the one in danger and he did what he had to do.  He really left himself exposed for somebody to take his gun and use it against him.

But this is what happens when people act like militants and not respect authority.

Two young girls either too ignorant or too juvinile to listen and comply with an officer of the law.  They eventualy got physical with him in their resistance and attempt to evade the law (and over such a petty thing as jaywalking too, tisk-tisk).  I say the cop did perfectly right, he could of opted to taze or pepper spray them a lot sooner.  The girls should get a couple weeks in county for learning what happens when an officer tells you to stop and wait and they don't comply... they should get more time if they think what they did was in any way was right and stop wasting more public assets on this issue than already has.  Or make them pickup roadkill for a year, seems as good a way as any to teach them nobody is special while at the same time implant the seed in their tiny brains that cars + meat = messy bad.

Watching the video, I'm not certain it warranted an outright slug to the face. She might have been trying to pull his arm away from her friend but it's not like she was squaring off with the guy or jumping on him. The girl was an idiot, but I still think there might have been a better way it could have been handled.

However I'm someone who STRONGLY believes that a man should NEVER strike or harm a woman except for VERY extreme circumstances, and I don't think this qualifies (I even hate seeing it in movies, and that is one of the reason I absolutely cannot watch slasher flicks) Obviously I'm in the minority here.

But again as I stated before, the cop didn't know if that girl had a knife on her.  Also if you watch the video you will see there is a large group around him.  He was probably also nervous about people jumping in.

I think it just escalated.  The cop yells 'Whoa whoa whoa you can't cross here' and the girls say "@#$! @$%" and keep on going and now, he gets offended and wants them to stop for their blatant disrespect for the law, and their continued antagonism escalates the situation.  Had they just said "I'm sorry officer we shouldn't have crossed illegally, our mistake" It would have been done with, right there most likely, but apparently these girls weren't bright enough to make the appropriate decision.

Spending a few moments of their time talking to the officer in a respectful and apologetic manner and they would have been on their way.

How can anybody think that struggling and/or fighting with a police officer will get you anything but more trouble?

Seriously, what are in these people heads?  What made this girl think that her actions were helpful to her in any way?

Is she just THAT stupid?  Did her parents fail her that utterly?

If I was the officer I would have put up with that for all of 10 seconds and gotten out the tear gas or stun gun.  I think he was in the wrong struggling as long as he did with her.

The idiot who was saying "really?" is another total moron.  You aggressively put your hands on an officer expect to get hit/shot/tazed/sprayed.

I have had run ins with officers over the years.  It has always been my policy to make their life/job as easy as possible and nine times out of ten they were quite cool back.  (let me smoke a cig. etc, etc)

Yep, in my younger wilder days I used to get locked up 2,3 or 4 times a year. I reckon I've been locked up 20 or 30 times over the years, and not once has a cop ever felt the need to smack me around. I always treated them with respect and they've done the same to me. They usually give back what they get.

That cop should be suspended and retrained. If he can't control two weak 20 years old girls...what is he planning to do when those grappling skills (or lack of) will actually require him to subdue someone of same weight category?.  Just twist that arm like a chicken wing and person will comply very quickly.
