Hey Wildcat,
Here's the kill system to the best of my understanding.
The person that gets the kill, is the person who's done the most damage up until the point the vehicle/aircraft suffers a catastrophic failure.
Example : Let's say you tail this plane for 45 seconds, pumping round after round into the plane, but it just doesn't go down. You do 75 points of damage to the left wing, 25 to the left engine, 100 to the left flap, left aerilon, and left vertical stablizer blowing them off, but the enemy pilot keeps on ticking.
A teammate comes buzzing in and in 1 quick machine gun burst, does 33 points of damage to the left wing, blowing it off and sending the enemy aircraft to the ground.
In Aces High's method, YOU get the kill, and not your teammate, because even though your teammate took off the chunk that caused the plane to be the most unstable, you're the one that did the "hard labor". What you're asking for is that 2nd guy to get the kill, the one who did nothing but swoop in after you made it easy for him.
Example #2 : You're tailing an enemy for 45 seconds, pumping round after round into the plane. You damage the enemy's oil system, wound the pilot, and take off the right wing. You watch as the enemy plane (a 190) falls 5k to certain doom. Unknown to you, he recovers about 300 feet from the ground, and stabilizes his plane, barely, even with missing 1/2 his right wing. A few moments later, a teammate sees the wounded 190, and takes a shot at him. In his attempt to avoid the bullets, the 190 gets hit by 1 or 2, but completely loses control due to having his wing blown off.
In Aces High, you get the kill again. Any damage done after that wing was blown off doesn't count toward the kill. Your teammate doesn't even get an assist. However, in your method, you didn't make it so "the aircraft has absolutely no chance of making it back safely", so your teammate would have gotten the kill.
That's why' AH's kill system is the way it is. Personally, I think it's pretty darn fair, when in the heat of battle anyone can switch targets with anyone. Hope that helps some!
