A lot, if not all of the planes that launch and land on British carriers are and will be VTOL Harriers up until they are replaced by the F-35, also VTOL. Also, they are almost 100 meters longer than the class of ship they are replacing.

Carriers are named after presidents correct or famous people. How about naming it USS Puller or USS Patton or even USS Yeager. All these people had significant roles in US history.
Think of who they were and you will realize I'm half way correct. These men have done more for this country and more notable than most would believe. IMHO I'm right...

Destroyers and frigates are currently named for military heroes (I think almost exclusively Navy and Marines) so USS Puller would be more appropriate for a destroyer or frigate (actually, there was one. She was an Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigate in service until 1998 when she was sold to Egypt).

Nimitz-class carriers have been named for Presidents, one admiral, and several other politicians. Not "famous people." I'm not sure Patton or Yeager fit this convention.

The historical tradition for carriers is to name them after battles (IE Yorktown, Lexington, Midway) or previous famous ships (Enterprise, Hornet, Essex).
