No mbailey , you ? I plan to go to Wilson dam up on the TN river next month for some catfishing and maybe a few of those big striped bass . Have not been up there in a few year's but one can catch some nice catfish there . Last time I went I carried home 400 pounds of clean catfish .
Here is a pic of the Dam with the water cut off . They turn on the generaters at night . That's when you catch the fish just have to watch out for all the rock's .

Anyone been out lately?

Not that much, the water is super high, and the weather is just stupid.  It was 35 this morning and tomorrow the high is supposed to be 91 :huh.  Did get out this evening for a little bit after a rain storm chasing trout.  Could have had my three fish limit in about 15 minutes but kept letting the last one go so I could keep fishing.  Of course then when I was ready to go I couldn't get that last fish to save my life.  Oh well, two of them in brine now going on the smoker tomorrow.

This was the best hole of the day, probably a half a dozen fish out of here including the two biggest of the day at 14" and 15", plus a lot more missed/lost.

Bought used little Nitro bass boat this year to be able to hop around to some of the other lakes around.  Been out a couple times and caught some bass and pike.  Hope to have other boat in Lake Ontario before the end of the month so I can get back to trolling for salmon.  Only pic I've got so far this year....

I'm ready to start getting out!  We usually take our hour lunch break and hit up our boss's ponds when the weather is nice.  Since we haven't been working Saturdays, I've been getting out here and there.  Haven't really caught anything worth posting.  Right now I'm having trouble with my reels backlashing.  I had it setup perfect last year, but my brother and his friend used it a few weeks ago, and it hasn't been right since  :bhead

Maybe you're just rusty?  That's been my excuse for all the birds nests I've been picking.  Unless it's windy out I like to keep that little magnetic drag knob thingy so loose it's almost falling off.

While we're on the subject of backlashes... Does anyone have any comments on braid vs. mono?  I've fallen in love with the Power Pro I have one of my spinning rods rigged with and want to switch over to it on my baitcaster but it seems like with the smaller diameter it might be tougher to get things untangled?

Magnetic drag knob thingy, briad vs mono??  Backlashes???

For little fish (anything less than 20 lbs) we use a line, a hook, a sinker and some bait here.

For big fish I wait until the captain's helper hands me the rod.  lol  :)

I use braid in saltwater, and if im fishing heavy cover in freshwater.

Mono for trolling (i like the stretch) If im throwing crankbaits, fishing bottom (live bait) Ill use mono as well.

As silly as this sounds, i dont use a baitcaster freshwater, Ive grown up with spinning reels, and can finese  my bait in anywhere, If it aint broke, dont fix it  LOL

I used it earlier this year and didn't have any problems.  I don't know what it is, as my other baitcaster broke last year, so I can't really test out to see if it's me or the reel.  But I do know that it's just not acting right; it feels different.

My mini spin reel that I use for bream, crappie, and when we catch skipjack works like a charm, though.  I am planning on buying a large spin reel to use for bass fishing, as I have finally gotten comfortable with casting a spin reel.

That's weird, have you changed anything with it, different line perhaps?  The only suggestion I can offer is to pull off a bunch of line to make sure you get any old loose loops buried down in there from backlashes past and keep some pressure on the line and wind it onto the spool nice and tight and even.

It started doing it after my brother used it, so I suspect he either unintentionally (or intentionally) did something to it.  I restrung it twice with two different pound test lines and got the same results.  It's almost like the drag doesn't work, as there seems to be a little slack in the reel.  For instance, when you start reeling, the reel is supposed to lock and starting spinning the opposite way.  Instead, when you lock the reel, it keeps spinning for about half a spin or so, which is when it starts backlashing.  Then again, it could just be worn out seeing that it is about a 10 year old cheap Rhino from Walmart (I've never had much luck with Rhinos).

Abu Garcia my man.  The only way to fly!... err fish.

I say take it apart, carefully(the internals of a baitcaster can be nightmarish at times), give it a cleaning and look for anything broken or showing signs of wear like missing or worn teeth on gears.  Worst case scenario it wont go back together and you have an excuse to get a new one.

There's a nice Quantum spin reel at Gander Mtn. that was on sale for $40 that I had eyed out a few months ago.  My roommate works in the fishing department there, so I'll have to get with him.  I haven't looked at any baitcasters, but my buddy has an Abu Garcia and loves it.  He goes back and forth between that and his spin reel.
