In 2 weeks.  Always 2 weeks.

As for the idea, I'm gonna have to say -1 for the same reasons stated in the previous thread along these lines.  Added to those I'll say armchair generals are bad enough as is in here.  I can't imagine what it would look like if they had a fake little Oakley next to their name.

well, within these argumantation you could also stop the rankings and scores overall. But why? its fun, you want to see results when you play. Doesent matter if you do sports, play a game or whatever. Everyone wnna see results. Having a medal and ranking system additional to the scores would be a great addition to the game.
Whats wrong with having little small medalsbeside your name? its just to enjoy the game

I can see his point. Not that I totally agree with it but, I can see and understand it.

After all it would look fairly cool on your squad roster if you could post ribbons and medals.
Something on the order of 50 kills in WWI arena gets you the Blue Max, etc.

If that is what your after Dhyran you might want to take a look here.

Ribbons and awards

And an example of it in use.

It does take a certain amount of work initially creating the various ribbons.
We have "borrowed" a few here and there as we found things we liked.

*sigh* the reward should be playing the game. Instead of trying to find more ways to have some silly attaboy crap, think about how important that stuff would be to you if you could not play the game for one reason or another. It would not have any significance...so why try to bring it into the game anyway? Just another point for people to look at and attempt to figure out how to manipulate the system for some meaningless claim to fame.

The sort of reward that I want is to be able to trade in perks for a Aces High beanie or hoodie or some such.

fake little Oakley

Haha, whoops.  I meant to say Oak Leaf, not reference the ever beloved Foakleys.

^ Not me, by the way.   :rofl

As for this counter point:
Whats wrong with having little small medals beside your name? its just to enjoy the game

Nothing is wrong with having a little medal by your name, but more the game play and style which people take on in order to attain said fake little medals.  It's bad enough with the current system, let along adding to it.  I think Gyrene hit it pretty well.

Both sides have valid points here.  YES, the game lacks any real sense of progression and NO we don't need dweebs with a chest full of medals getting a false sense of authority but let's think about this a little more:  Is anyone really going to care any more about rank than they do about score?  Chances are most people aren't gonna get any more ruffled about Airman Snuffy getting promoted to Colonel than they'd get if he dweebs it up in perkers all month and gets in the top 10 for fighter score.  I think this addition would add a little something for EVERYONE while not adversely affecting those who don't give a hoot.

I can think of a couple ways to implement this.  Roster->Right click name->Pilot Summary:  Opens a page similar to Score page which shows players to view cumulative career stats instead of just stats for that month. I'm a stats junkie and this thought is just too convenient not to ask for. Rank would be displayed on this page and nowhere else so as not to offend those individuals with tendencies for excessive rank envy while still giving a sense of progression to everyone else.

How do you make it the slightest bit relevant?  1. Higher ranks would have dibs on Task Groups thus eliminating the problem of inexplicable noobery which not only ruins fun but ruins chances for success.
2. The ability to host missions would be earned after the first couple ranks.  This gives new players something to work for when they would not be taking advantage of the feature anyway and spamming country channel with calls to war.  Increased rank allows more aircraft in your mission.  You might say, "I can only have 8 aircraft in my mission it's worthless!"  Not so.  Coordinate with the other guy who can only command six in his mission. I could go on but shall spare ye.  :bolt:

I have to say -1 to this.

Although this would give you something to aim for when you play the game, and hence would probably draw players into playing more often, it would also negatively affect gameplay, as people would then play the game for the purpose of earning these medals, rather than playing for the purpose of having fun (and then being pleasantly surprised when a medal suddenly pops up).  The consequence of this would almost certainly be a reduction in 'good' gameplay, as people tried to accumulate as many medals as possible.

nice ghost!

i am running that site http://www.hall-of-aces.org/
take a look after medals and rewards, i don't show all, they must be earned, look unter awarded pilots
Well, something like that but given automized buy the game, when earning next level os some scores. Dweebs will not reach a lot, think about setting up levels like a hit ratio of more than 10% brings into bronze medal range etc. Something like that!

additional your site looks great ghost, medals, ribbons and ranks......

Hi Letalis, I agree with you and Dhyran, I have once suggested something along these lines...

I would tie rank to the time as a active paying costumer and with time spent online vs kill ratios, hit percentage, damage produced and so on. Experience would count for something, in the end...Rank would be atributed by the server, known only to the players or those visiting his profile. Rank allowed for use in the BBS.

I would link the ribbons to the arenas. After a certain number of missions played in a given arena in a given ToD, you would receive and be entitled to use a specific arena/ToD ribbon. Ribbons not visible in game, only in player profile. Ribbons allowed for use in the BBS.

I would link medals to special achievements: number of kills, a certain % ratio to longest streak, total damage produced as bomber, accuracy in field guns, and so on... Also, something along the lines of the "Like" button so popular nowadays: everytime someone "Liked" something some player did - like getting you out of trouble, etc - would press that button and add a +1 to that player's record of "good deeds"... After, let's say, 100, 500, 1000 of these points, the player would be awarded a special medal and a rank improvement... "Likes" would not be free, however. They would cost 5 perks to the player giving it.

Just a few thougts.

Cheers,
