Tankers Nightmare...
« Reply #15 on: April 11, 2000, 09:36:00 AM »
Hell NO!

I'm pretty much a Fighter Jock exclusively, rarely take a BUFF and have yet to use any of the vehicles online.
(I like clean sheets, and hot meals too much to be in the Army)

I end up constantly rolling looking out my side views for ground targets, so to END that, I think all NON-BISHOP players should have a BIG neon ARROW with "I'm here" above it flashing in a strobe-like manner that is visible from at least 100km away should be implemented immediately.

Right on the money JoeMud: dust is a giveaway, not the actual movements. In RL you'd be able to see a tank moving X-country for miles if it's dry. Then again - if it's raining - you'll get no visual clues and no need for camouflage either - everything will be covered in mud .

Punt~ Part time tanker here, I agree, however not sure how this is coded, would it be difficult to show Tank dots at  only 3.0 and Plane dots  out to D30.0?  I assume they use the same code.

Anyway, Punt, HTC?  If you don't want tanks to be a 'dead issue' in 6 months (Pun intended) I think  this needs addressing.

deffinately to easy to see the tanks.  I have some fun driving them.  Even led several panzers to shell a field and then have a gooney bird drop drunks to capture it (only bird involved).

Been many a time I see dots off in the distance that appear to be at 8k or higher so keep right on driving.  Then I get thier icon at 8000yds and decreasing rapidly.  quick stop, jump to gun, swing the barrel about, and they're flying straight down the barrel.  Saw me from God only knows how far away and come thinkin they gonna get an easy kill (til they eat the 75mm   )

It's a royal pain in the arse, specially if you're tryin to get to tank a duel with someone (and dinnae tell me to go to the TA to duel another tank)

This should apply to plane icons too - this way you wouldnt shoot at the icon when a plane is under your nose - the icon would disappear!

Hopefully this will be included in the hyped z-buffer patch!

Another option is to put the icons below the planes

<punt> From my experience, (Army aviator)
an armored vehicle moving at less than 10 MPH
can be spotted from the air at about 1 mile, and a stationary tank you pretty much have to overfly to spot, tanks moving over 10 Mph throw out enough dust to make them visible at 3 miles(add 6 miles to that in deserts)
The combination of icons and no ground cover makes tanking a difficult prospect in AH, But if you aren't worried about score, then persistence will pay off.
