I'm having a bunch of crashes to desktop, actually made worse by updating my vid and sound drivers.

Here is the error I get;

I have been hearing a lot of bad things about the latest driver release from NVidia.

I assume you only installed the base drivers for the sound card and not all the other Creative garbage.

What driver would you recommend for my video card?

I did install the creative mixer so I could tweak the surround sound a bit, I didn't install anything else tho.

No idea what is causing my crashes, Skuzzy?

Well, if you installed anything from Creative, outside the drivers, all bets are off.

For the video card, I would use whatever it came with and stick with it for the moment.

If I was getting those errors, I would be reformatting the drive and re-installing Windows.

This would be one of those instances where I'd run Prime95's torture testing on all the cores simultaneously to ensure that the basic hardware and cooling is up to snuff.

I'd do that before doing anything drastic.  If it passes the torture test, then you can discount most hardware issues and cooling except for those relating to the GPU and sound.

I formatted my computer, I'm using older video drivers, I'm using just the base drivers from Creative and not any of the extras from Creative.

I'm still getting the errors, this is the one I just received. What is causing it?

I noticed some strange artifacts before the last crash. The hills were invisible but the trees were still there... I'm guessing my video card is on the way out.

I ordered a new video card, even if it isn't the problem, its a good excuse to get a new one.  :devil

try updating that video driver to the 258.96 look at the other thread you posted in for a link. also try adjusting your video resloution. i only say this because i just bought a GTX 260 and had to do all of these to get it to run with out black screen of death

got the same issue del, i am using a gtx 275 on Win 7 64 bit, invisible hills, only tree to see and strange artefacts all over in gray

I made the leap and purchased a new video card. I'm going to see if that will fix the problem.

I'll post later and let you know after I've played on AH a bit to test it.

Tons of people CTD's in the scenario today.

Might have something to do with the clouds like in the films crashing, thats just what i think
