No Ack-Ack, you misunderstand. It is a buzzsaw at 200 yds, not at long range. Its still hard hitting, your just not going to shear the wing off a 190 with a 1/2 sec burst.

Of the two P-51Ds I shot down at along range last night...1st had the tail section removed with a 1 second burst of my 4x .50 calibers, the 2nd P-51D had the starboard wing completely removed at the wing root and set on fire with another 1 second burst from my 4x .50 calibers.

And Ack-Ack, is the lack of convergance issues one of the reasons you fly the P-38?

The lack of convergence on the P-38 has never had any bearing on my decision to fly the Lightning, it's just one of the benefits I enjoy when flying it.

Hmmm, it appears I'm either overestimating the A8's structural integrity, or under estimating the .50.

Anytime you wish me to roll a D-11 or D-25 against your 190 in the DA, come talk to me.   You are grossly underestimating the effectiveness of 6-8 50 cals.

Or both.

Too bad the 38K never saw combat. I wonder what kind of reputation the 38 mightve had if it did see combat...  :noid

F4F-4

This bird is a monster in disguise.

Handling - 9/10  This bird can really surprise a pilot in various different planes.  My personal favorite is the Spit 16 pilot.

Speed 7-8/10  If flown properly.

Armament 10/10  Take the 4 gun package, magic things happen with it. Your ammo will not run out as fast with this load out, you will usually run out of fuel first.

Survivability 10/10 This bird can really take a beating and then rtb.

Fear Factor ...... ?/10 I am not sure, haven't asked the other guy.

I dont think the P-51 mustang would be known as the "best" fighter aircraft of WWII.

I would love to see a horde of p-38's instead of Pony's.

Something so beatiful and horrible at the same time would probably tear into the very fabric of the common AHer and rip apart their fragile minds.

People across the globe would lose their sanity seeing a horde of P-38K's flying in AH.

The president accidentally sees a screenshot while searching for diet food recipes. He loses his mind and punts the nuclear football into mother russia.

Nuclear Holocaust.

Actually, now that I think about it, I kind of like the horde of pony's compared to a nuclear holocaust...  :noid

Sandwich, you forgot the P-51H. Pony still is king  :neener:. Although the F4U-4 was likely the best U.S. bird that saw service.
