put my head under water and i'll tell you who really killed JFK.

may I remind you that the people that want to build the mosque are also us citizens.  and lots of them were ashamed that their religion was used as a cover by idiots.

semp

Semp, I haven't posted an "opinion" on whether or not the Mosque should be built.   So I guess I'm wondering, where in the hell do you come up your response?  All I did was properly inform Nemesis of his faulty logic.   Every religion has "fanatics", which is what Al Qaeda does.

Truth be told, they should be allowed to build it at the current location, three blocks from the WTC site.   It is a Constitutional Right granted in the First Amendment.

You're wrong again in this thread.   The hell the WTC wasn't a "strategic target" for the hijackers!!   The intent was simple, try and disrupt the World Economy.   They damn near succeeded.   However, they did not target only "Americans".   Citizens of over 90 countries lost their lives in the attacks.  It seems the "other countries" get lost in shuffle in 99% of the conversations relating to 9/11.

I almost lost a cousin in the Pentagon attack.   Her original office was consumed by the nose of the plane, not a missile.   A USMC guard, risked a Courts Martial, to retrieve her purse from her meeting room (In another wing until that wing's construction was complete) so she could get her cell phone.

You are obviously too young to be replying to a lot of these threads.
I didnt leave out the other countries. Notice how I used civilians instead of americans. I used it in big capital letters too. I'm sorry I didnt have time to list the 90 other countries in my post.

And thinking about it and looking at it, yes, it was a brilliant strategic plan. The only problem is, It did NOTHING. The only thing it ACCOMPLISHED was killing alot of civilians. It's not about what it was planned to be, it's about what it actually accomplished. And it accomplished absolutely nothing.

Imagine if flight 91 made it to washington and they ended up killing the president. I wonder what the war on terror would have been like with that angry SOB cheney at the helm.

Anyway...

My parents were both in the NYPD and were emergency responders to Ground Zero. They were then rescue workers after the towers collapsed sifting through the rubble for survivors.

They didnt end up going back to their normal jobs untill early 2003. They worked as cleanup and rescue workers for the entirety of the WTC cleanup.

Some close family friends were lost when the towers collapsed. My mother's partner was killed along with one of my mother's old friends who was working as a firefighter at the time.

Needless to say, the WTC attacks left a lasting impression in our family. When we see that a mosque is being built so close to what we view as sacred ground, especially when there's almost no muslim populace living on manhattan island. It's an insult to NYC, to the victims of the WTC attacks, to the United states, and most of all, to the surviving families of those killed that day.

I take it as insulting, that's my opinion. If I were to build a mosque in NYC, I would build it where the muslims live.  How about brooklyn? You know, where the majority of that populace is.

In case you've never been to new york city and have never seen the commute to manhattan at 3:00, let me assure you, it really really sucks.

And please, youre from Michigan. You werent there, I was. You dont live in New York, I do. The opinion of the peanut gallery is not wanted.

Youre obviously not mature enough to be replying to this thread.

The USCON is a document that guarantees certain freedoms.  While those freedoms exists uniformly for all citizens of the USA, it is best to not bite the hands that feed.  With all the other options available to the builders of that place of worship, one has to ponder wtf they are thinking.

It is not a question of their "right", that in particular is should not even be a question.  It is a issue far deeper than that.

The fact that the POTUS is even commenting on it shows just how sad things are in the USA.  The focus should be far far away on items of far far more importance.

Personally... I do not care.  But, would those same people building that mosque allow Christians or Jews to build a place of worship across from the grave of Ahmed Ishmail Muhammad Turdis?

That's the only important stat.  I have a point in all of this but I need to tread lightly..

My point(s) is, the jaw dropping headline of "Mosque two blocks away" is a cheap political point and is working purely on shock value.  So I ask, is five blocks far enough away? Ten blocks?  The fact is, it is private property that was purchased for use in NYC, the greatest melting pot in the world.  The knee jerk reaction when we hear 'Mosque' and 'Muslim' is based purely on our ignorance of their faith and culture.  The vast vast (two vasts for emphasis) majority are peaceful, hard working Americans.  Real Muslims have to live with the burden that terrorists share and distort their faith.  Acceptance and tolerance breed peace and unity.  Hate, isolation, and intolerance breed anti Americanism, which is our greatest enemy in the war against terrorism.

my 2c, no more.    :salute
A mosque that serves no purpose being built that close to sacred ground.

Hell, we get fatwa's all over the place if we draw the prophet mohammed, why cant we have a problem with them building a mosque that close to ground zero?

All I'm saying is, you can build it in brooklyn and not be flamed for it. It's an easier commute, there's alot of muslims there to begin with.

Islam means submission, it has been historically spread with the threat of the sword. The first crusade was the Islamic conquest of Christian lands. Jihad is not merely an individuals struggle. And Islam following it to its logical conclusion will result in a theocratic State. As far as the Constitution goes, it restricts the Federal government, not State or Local laws which can and do restrict building placement of any kind. They imposed such restriction on St. Nicholas Orthodox church. Historically there were state sponsored Religion in this Country after our Constitution was ratified. I have no regard for this mosque.

Take a long look at Feisal Abdul Rauf, the Imam who is behind the mosque project.

He refused to call Hamas a terrorist group, believes that the US brought 9-11 onto itself. Fine example of a moderate Muslim I guess.

Now imagine a white separatist church with a pastor who claimed Dr Martin Luther King jr brought on his own death.

If that group chose to build a church near Dr Kings assasination site, do you think the following words:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

would prevent the Government from successfully shutting them down?

Yes they have the right and if they do choose to be so insensitive to do it despite the opposition, I just hope it fades from the headlines and everyone ignores it.

no, just pointing out a fact that people under duress will way just about anything. wasn't criticizing you.  just a little story from personal experience you guys can relate.

something got broken at my house when i was younger, back in the mid 70's (when you were allowed to spank your kids), anyway, my mom told me she was gonna beat the crap out of me till I told her the truth.  Now i had nothing to do with it, I didnt even know, but my response was, I am sorry it was an accident and it wont happen again.  she spanked me a couple of times and that was the end of it.  a few weeks later it came out that it was my brother  who did it. she in turned asked me why i confessed, my reply was because you will beat me less.  hence I made the comment put my head under water (water boarding) and i'll tell you who really killed JFK.

but the sad thing about the everything is that "we" want to punish our fellow citizens for the wrongs of others.  sometimes we make decisions based on what we hear on the radio/tv/newspaper from people who get paid millions of dollars to say just about anything.

as for the original posting, I'll be more than happy to pay for your ticket to move to another country that has more liberties that ours.

Granted American is and always has been a melting pot for folks from all over with different customs and beliefs. That's one thing that makes us so unique. But the world has changed and some, I feel are using our Constitution and Bill of Rights against us to weaken America from the inside out.
Take for example Shiria law. If we keep allowing these mosques to be build are we also to allow them to practice their own rules set forth by their religion? This is a very slippery slope and the Muslim laws and customs are like night and day compared to other faiths. Be careful what you wish for. Because if you don't you may wake up one day having to go to your daughters stoning because she married a Mulsim and committed a sin they consider punishable by death.
Some of you may think my example is extreme but I assure you it is not. These folks are no joke and their main objective is to convert us to Islam. Mecca is over there. Why would they even want to step foot in a land they consider to be the "evil satan"?
They have already proven they will not lift a finger to stop their own extremeists from committing unspeakable acts of behandings and the such. Did anyone see the Time magizine cover with the woman with her nose cut off?! This is accepted practice over there. You mean to tell me you are OK with them doing that on American soil?
It's one thing to be tolerent of other religions and quite another to allow something like that to bloom in our back yards.
True America is the land of the free but there comes a time when she needs to wake up and smell the coffee. This "war" didn't start with 9/11, it started a couple thousand years ago and now they're getting a foothold in my land because our laws say they can. We're screwed if we don't stop this infestion.

I didnt say they were construction workers, did I?

Of course they don't anything to do with this mosque being built, theyre retired Police Officers.

And I know you can't have it both ways. You don't seem to get the defenition of OPINION. In my OPINION, the mosque should not be built because obviously it's construction is just an insult directed at NYC and the US etc. etc.

My opinion. Read the first ammendment kid, I'm entitled to one.

How the mosque is gonna work out.

First month after building, high attendence and major traffic from people making the commute from the outer boroughs.

A month after that. The new york city mosque is a barren place, as almost all of the islamic population living in NYC is moderate and they are hard working average people. They dont have the time, or the energy to commute to Manhattan to go to a mosque and pray. They can do it just as easlily with the smaller mosques scattered around (not surpirsingly) in places with a high muslim populace.

Fundamental islam has no foothold in NYC. NYC - 1, Fundamental islamist idiots - 0

This is exactly the type of destructive eye for eye, tit for tat, "we" vs "them", level of thinking that starts wars.
